‘S-250/FRO’ is universally suitable for wave soldering PCBs. It complies with specification DIN-EN 29454/1.2.3.A or DIN 8511/F-SW 33. Accordingly, it contains organic, halogen-free activating additives and synthetic rosin in a combination specially tuned to the thermal require-ments of soldering processes. ‘S-250/FRO’ can be applied by brushing, spraying, dipping, etc., but not by foaming. It is advisable to dry the flux after application to transform the liquid into the activation phase, which favors the soldering operation. ‘S-250/FRO’ is sufficiently stable to retain its activity throughout the soldering process, so that the PCBs separate cleanly from the solder wave.‘S-250/FRO’ is absolutely non-corrosive when tested to EN 61190-1-1. Furthermore, this test has shown no inadmissible change in the test board’s electrical surface resistance (SIR).

‘SD-35’ is a halogen-free product with reduced alcohol content that is universally suitable for wave soldering of PCBs. ‘SD-35’ has a solid con-tent of 3.5%. The organic activators used are halogen- and resin-free. ‘SD-35’ exhibits high activity and excellent wetting properties. We have used our experience with our well-known and established flux systems based on alcohol as well as on water as solvents to develop ‘SD-35’. The chosen composition of this specific alcohol/water mixture allows us to exploit the advantages of both solvents. Flux is applied by spraying. Practice has shown that washing can normally be neglected after soldering. However, as with all water-based fluxes, it should be taken into account to check whether residues are compatible with the conformal coating to be applied after soldering.

EO flux ‘PM-334’ was developed for the use in wave soldering machines. It has also proven itself in cable tinning and manual soldering. Practice has shown that with proper application, the washing of circuit boards soldered with this flux can be largely dispensed with. The ICT test with needle adapters is unproblematic.Besides the use on wave soldering machines, EO flux ‘PM-334’ can also be used for manual soldering. Application can be done with a brush in this connection. The EO flux dosing pen ‘FA-334’ or the ‘EO Electronic Kit’ offer better dosing possibilities. Good results are also achieved using this product for tinning of cable wire.

This low-solid flux was developed for use in wave soldering machines and possesses a relatively high activity despite the low solid content of only 1.8%. Application can be undertaken in any conventional manner. Practice has shown that with proper application, the washing of circuit boards soldered with this flux can be largely dispensed with. In contrast to ‘resin-free fluxes’, ‘GSP-1833’ is characterized by higher resistance values, so no cleaning is required. The ICT test with needle adapters is unproblematic.

While nitrogen gas is not used during the wave soldering of PCBs the tin bath surface will create a layer of metallic oxides.
The operator will generally remove the tin dross with a special trowel or spoon. Due to the fact that the removed dross contains a significant quantity of liquid tin, it should be separated in a time-intensive extraction process or it will be dumped. While using our halogen-free scatter salt, ‘REDOX’, most of the metallic components in the dross will be dissolved and can be returned to the process.
Therefore, ‘REDOX’ has to be applied to the existing oxide layers where it will react with the disruptive oxides. All dissolved metallic ingredi-ents will remain in the bath after application of the scatter salt. The dross containing all of the organic ingredients in the scatter salt as well as a minor quantity of metallic components will appear on the tin surface. This can be removed easily with a spoon. After cooling down, the dross will solidify and can be subsequently disposed of.
