On Saturday, March 5, over 70 trekkers went up Lake Holon.
They are the first batch oftourists allowed to visit Lake Holon since January 11, this year.
Through a memorandum dated January 4 to Community-Based Economic Tourism head Rodel Hilado, MayorDibuTuanorderedclosureof

Low oil prices, ample food supply ease inflation in February
MANILA -- The continuous decline in global oil prices and slower price increase in food items slowed inflation at 0.9 percent in February 2016 from 1.3 percent in the previous month, according to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). This low inflation waslargely due to downward pricemovements in transport, andelectricity, gas and other fuelsand slower increases in the
pricesof foodandnon-alcoholicbeverages,clothingandfootwear,amongothers.

“This low inflationenvironmentislikelytocontinueasexternaldownwardpressuresremain.Notably,globaloilpricesareexpected tobe lowerby27percentonaveragein2016,”theCabinetofficialsaid.
Esguerra warned of thepotential negative impacts ofcontinued decline in global oilprices on some categories ofoverseasFilipinoworkerssuchasthoseengagedinoilexploration,construction, and clericalservices.
“Giventhesedevelopments,oil-producing countries mayimplement austerity measures,cutbackonsubsidies,postponeinfrastructure outlays, andimpose higher taxes. Thus, thegovernment should strengthenits ability to identify displacedworkers and actively extend

assistance by facilitatingemployment opportunities orplacement services, re-training,providing livelihood, and/or re-integration,”hesaid.
Onthedomesticfront,whileElNiño isexpectedtograduallyweaken starting this month,upward price pressures in foodareexpectedduetotheonsetofthesummerseason.

Thebook,entitled“AReporttothePresidentoftheRepublicofthePhilippinesontheSubstantiveAgenda of APEC 2015,” is acollaboration between the DFAand the Development AcademyofthePhilippines(DAP).
The publication follows

(SPI) gears up for the anticipated tighter Mindanao power supply condition in the coming months by undertaking and completing all the initial preventive maintenance activities before the peak of the summer season kicks in. SPI successfully carried out itsfirstpreventivemaintenanceschedulefor the year last February 6 and 7involving its power generating unitNo.2.ItspowergeneratingunitNo.1isscheduledforatwo-dayplannedpreventivemaintenance on March 5and6,2016. Meanwhile, SPI power plantmanager Dr. Carsten Evers said thetimingofthepreventivemaintenanceactivitiesiscritically importantcitingvolatilityinthepowersupplyconditionofthegrid. “Inkeepingwithourcommitmentto efficiency, reliability andresponsibility, SPI always takes into

DOH, DA espouse responsible pet ownershipDAVAO CITY- The Department of Health and the Department of Ag-riculture in Region XI is espousing responsible pet ownership as the country is commemorating Rabies Awareness Month this March. Dr.ArmieCapuyanoftheDe-partment of Agriculture-XI saidthatasidefromprovidingrabiesvaccinationtoyourpetsparticu-larlydogs,theyshouldalsokeeptheir dogs in their cages or ontheir leashes rather thanallow-ing them to roam outside theirhomeswheretheycanbitepeo-ple. Capuyansaidthatevenwitharabiesinjection,itisnot100%safethatthedogwouldcontactrabiesthusextracareistakentopreventpetsfrombitingpeople. AccordingtoCapuyan,therehas been a 400% increase indogbite incidentsfrom2010to2015.Therewereabout10,000casesofdogbitesinthecountryin2010 in2015 therewere re-corded37,000dogbites.
