ON MONET'S EXHIBITION-STUTTGART 2006
22nd August, 2006.
What a pleasant day it was today! For the second time I
visited the Monets ehi"ition in the #tate $allery o% #tuttgart. I
once more had the chance to admire some o% the words o% the
French great master. &ne thing I really en'oy is that o% Monets
o"session o% repeating the same moti% in di%%erent light and(or
climatic conditions and sometimes %rom slightly di%%erent
viewpoint. In this way I thin) the moti% *or the theme, i% you
pre%er+ ta)es a distinctive identity under various lighting and
weather conditions.*sunshine, mist ,rain, sunset, midday. etc.+,itchanges dimensions and mood and "ecomes alive with colour
vi"rations that sha)e the atmosphere around it. In this respect the
human mind moves %urther a%ield into adventurous possi"ilities o%
creations within the "oundaries o% a given %orm which provides the
cornerstone o% the idea o% the initial inspiration.
A many academic thin) that the Monets canvases o% the
-ouen athedral is the ultimate and pro"a"ly the uni/ue eample
o% the idea o% eploring the light and shadow o% the %orm hecolour schemes and the su"se/uent com"inations, as mastered "y
Monets ingenuity "rings along a num"er o% variations, so in each
occasion the same moti% appears in a a new dress radiating a
range o% moods and %eelings.

%or the years to come .he 1aystac) at hiverny is a %estival o%
light and shadow. he well "alanced composition "rings the viewer
straight and without the slightest hesitation into the scene and
into the activities o% the people there. It is the children playing
around in the %ield. It is the lady holding the red um"rella protecting hersel% %rom the power%ul sunshine. .It is the two
haystac)s the one nearest to the viewer ,as the main theme, and
the other ,in the mid ground, "oth glowing with light and rested on
their own colour%ul shadows .It is the trees in the "ac)ground and
the unseen trees on the le%t casting their shadows hal% across the
%ield. It is all these that ma)e the "est possi"le %rame %or the eye to
wander and play with "oth people and nature.
