Writing Workshop1. Organizing our Biographies
Making sure that our ideas & information are easy for our readers to follow & understand
Remember that a Biographer’s job is to tell the story about their subject…then help their readers understand & learn more about them.
Biographical EssayThe structure to consider here would be the Biographical Essay
Read Author’s Note…focus on the thesis statement, body paragraphs & conclusion…what is repeated or explained throughout?
This structure follows more closely to the general essay structure. (Like what you guys are working on!)
Biographical EssayBegins with an introduction statement which introduces the reader to the subject & includes a thesis statement that explains the idea that will be the focus of the biography.
“As he grew into a young adult, he saw how powerful words were and he spent hours writing speeches.”
Biographical EssayIn this Bio…there are 3 paragraphs written in chronological order with details to support the thesis & then there is a conclusion that restates the thesis in a new way.
“Abe Lincoln’s love of books, the ideas they stirred…”
Biographical EssayThe paragraphs support the idea that it was Abe’s love of books that played a part in his major goals & accomplishments.
Let’s take a few minutes & see if we
can’t make some notes about how we would like our Essay
Structured Biographies about our Super Peacemakers
to look like…
to be put in white binder
Let’s begin by making sure our Introduction
has a Thesis Statement…
Don’t forget that your conclusion should repeat the Thesis
Statement that you made in your introduction.
