Council 12887 Preamble
The monthly Shining Armor bulletin has three challenges: to bring members
up-to-date on council events, to encourage member participation and to re-
spond to the call to serve and to build the Domestic Church.

Grand Knight’s Message
Almighty and merciful
Father, by the power of
your command, drive
away from those who
have all forms of sick-
ness and disease. Re-
store strength to their
body and joy to their
spirit, so that in there
renewed health, they
may bless and serve
you, now and forever-
more.
Just one more
In a modern world many of us may have difficulty relating to the missionary life that the Apos-
tles and Disciples lead. It is difficult to relate to men and women who were willing to give their
life’s for what they believed in when many of us are too scared to even mention in public that we
are men of faith. In an era when Christianity is often ridiculed what can we really do to make a
difference and change the world?
I recently saw the movie Hacksaw Ridge. This movie was about a religious pacifist in the army
during World War 2 that was largely labeled a coward for refusing to carry a weapon. For most
of the movie he was ridiculed, beaten, and threatened and like the early disciples never wavered
from his convictions. In the end, he became one of the most courageous war hero’s in World War
2. He almost single handedly saved nearly 100 men. He accomplished this amazing goal by fo-
cusing on these three words “Just One More”. Each time he saved someone he prayed for the
strength to save “just one more”.
We can use these three words as personal inspiration. What if by our example and actions we can
positively effect the life of just one person! Couldn’t we all realistically accomplish this goal?
What if when we accomplished this goal we simply focused on just one more! Like ripples on a
pond when you throw a rock in the water this one persons actions travel outward effecting even
more people. So, can we really change the world? For the one man we helped we certainly have
changed his world.

COMMENTARY
Brother Knights,
God, through Father McGivney, gave us a mis-
sion: let us be attentive to what that mission is–
Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. Pierre
Teilhard stated, “Trust in the slow work of
God”. Frustrated that is, we should take Tiel-
hard de Charden’s words to heart. Yes, things
don’t often go the way we may want them to go.
Needles to say, patience is a virtue. Hence, it
has become obvious that His mission for us is a
slow process and hopefully when the time
comes-we will flourish at what He wants us to
accomplish and when that happens, we hope
that non-participating brothers will take the lead
in building the Council and Church. However,
in the mean time the Council needs to forge
ahead in enhancing it’s principles of Charity,
Unity, Fraternalism and Patriotism and continue
to encourage member participation in keeping
these principles meaningfully and active..
Older members, some retired, semi-retired,
working part-time, realize that today’s demands
on one’s time may be different then when they
were working and in comparison between those
of you who are working in full time jobs may
have a different perspective in volunteering and
sharing your time with the Council.
Perhaps you may see yourself getting involved
when you retire and feel that you may have
more time tomorrow to get involved.
Those who are currently involved, prior to their
involvement, report that their live was no differ-
ent than yours is today. But, it appears that the
Lord was working on them, challenging them to
bring His life into the lives of others, more spe-
cifically theirs. They saw and witnessed the
council serving those in need and being in-
volved in parish activities. They felt a need to
enter into a covenant with Jesus, the church, as
members of the Council. They realized that be-
ing a Knight, they could be transparent, wel-
coming, honest, inviting, and establish fellow-
ship with other men.
They also saw the knights bring the presence
of Jesus into the lives of others by works of
charity. Furthermore, they also saw how
united in Christ members were in their faith,
helping our priests and helping one another
and decided that they wanted to be part of that
experience.
Today, these brothers, feel that they were em-
powered to transcend their personal reasons
for joining the council, got involved and be-
came transformed in service. Our council pro-
vides members with the opportunity to be
transformed in becoming a disciple of Christ
in loving all and serving all.
These brothers, further reported, that being
involved in activities has improved their rela-
tionship with their wife and children and
helped them become closer to God, their faith
and church. It has helped them become a bet-
ter husband and father. These are brothers
who are still working full-time.
Imagine, what will happen when they retire
and give fully of their time to the council and
the church. WOW! That would something
worth seeing.
In closing, if we really believe in our mission,
we should focus on the task before us. Pope
Frances noted that we should not focus on
ourselves but to those whom we are serving.
The gift of time and our presence is what Je-
sus gave us and in turn we need to do the
same for Him. He wants us to bring HIS
PRESENCE TO OTHERS. In essence our
time plus sharing of ourselves equals Love.
Participating in council activities means that
we can, without wavering, keep our works
fixed on Christ and Fr. McGivney’s mission
for us. Your involvement Brothers, is that vi-
tal!

Brothers, This month I would like to share two stories
from history. Little known history. Both, If thought
about, show the hand of God working in mysterious
ways.
So, come for the dinner and business meeting on the
28th and learn about the hand of God working in un-
usual ways.
In His Service,
Jim de Maria
