Wet Weather

The game is on unless advised. Don’t ring us – someone will contact you by email and it will be advised on the website

If the game is not on, the committee will usually make a decision by 7pm Friday night

10 team competitions

There will a 10th round of competition to be held prior to the finals.

The draw for the 10th round will not be completed or published until the completion of the 9th round.

Late Registrations

Teams / clubs must receive verbal approval from the NDJCA registrar prior to new players taking the field

Competition Draw Details

4 teamsPlay everyone four times, twice in a two-day match, once in a one-day match and once in a T20 match

5 – 6 teamsPlay everyone twice in two day matches

7 – 8 teamsPlay everyone twice, once in a one-day match and once in a two-day match

Ground Conditions

A ground assessment is required before the commencement of each and every day’s play. Be on the lookout for glass, cans, needles, animal diggings and anything else that may pose a danger

If there are issues with the state of the ground or pitch please advise the junior committee so that it may be corrected

Miscellaneous Rules

Suspect bowling actions are NOT no-balled during play. If there is an issue take it up with the player’s coach at a break of play or at end of the match (Rule 2.12)

Wrist bands are not allowed to be worn whilst bowling

Rule 1.2 Weather and Grounds

If lightning and thunder are observed within 30 seconds of each other, everyone is to leave the field. No one should return to the field for 30 minutes after the last incident, including any incident prior to the start of the game.

Rule 1.9 Match Results

The team list should be entered by both teams not later than 1:00pm Monday following the commencement of the match

Scores from each match are to be entered by both teams not later than 1:00pm each Monday following the completion of the match

The scorecard is to be entered by each team no later than 1:00pm each Wednesday following the completion of the match

Rule 1.10 Penalties and Fines

Failure to enter results by the allotted time will result in a fine of $10 per team. The junior web administrator shall notify the Club Secretary of the imposition within 24 hours.

If the results have still not been entered after one week from the time of notification by the Junior Registrar, the team will forfeit all points for the relevant match.

Rule 2.2 Team Sheets

Team captains prior to tossing will exchange signed team sheets. The captain may name no more than twelve (12) players, eleven (11) of whom may participate as batsmen and eleven (11) of whom may bowl or field at any time

Although every effort must be made by each team to complete the daily number of overs, matches are time based. The team bowling first shall receive no more than the overs they delivered, when it is their turn to bat, unless they dismissed the other team.

Rule 2.5 Intervals

2.5.1 Between Innings

A break of no more than 10 minutes is to be taken between innings

Where a wicket falls halfway through an over at the end of the first day’s play, that over shall be completed even if it goes beyond the normal finishing time

Day One Finishing Time

The earliest that day one can finish is 11:35am (under 12 – 16) at the fall of the last wicket or the completion of the 50th over

If the first innings is completed prior to 11:35am for either reason then the bowling side WILL commence their innings and play will continue until 11:45am

2.5.3 Drinks Break

Drinks may be taken within the scheduled hours of play for an interval not exceeding five (5) minutes as mutually agreed between the team officials before the commencement of the match.

Rule 2.9 Captains

The captain of the team should be encouraged to take full control of his team at all times.

Captains are to toss the coin on or near the pitch with the home team captain to toss, the away team captain to call

Under 13 – 16Captains should have full control of the fielding side including bowling changes and field placements. The umpires should just be there to officiate

Under 12Captains should be encouraged to take full control of the fielding side including bowling changes and field placements. The umpires should just be there to officiate and OCCASSIONALLY offer advice. The on-field assistance should be minimised by the end of the third round.

Rule 2.10 Umpires

An Umpire is any individual entrusted with the duties of an umpire either at the “Bowlers” or “Strikers” end. Except in Under 9 and 10, umpires must alternate and officiate from different ends each over.

For under 9 and 10, a team official for the fielding side will act as Umpire at the bowlers end throughout the innings in order to assist the fielding side.

Rule 2.11 Protective Equipment

2.11.1 Close FieldingNo player shall field closer than ten (10) metres from the batsman without a helmet and protector

2.11.2 BatsmenAll players when batting are to wear a helmet under all weather conditions and against all bowling types

2.11.4 Protective helmets belonging to the fielding side….shall be placed at least five metres behind the keeper and in line with both sets of stumps. No penalty runs shall be awarded if the ball hits the helmet. Dead ball is called and the ball is not replayed

Rule 2.13 Mandatory Retirements

Players must retire once they reach a score at least equal to the retiring score for their age group.

Rule 2.14 Boundaries

A representative from each team should be nominated to work together to put the markers in place.

Under 15 and 16 – at least 60 metresUnder 13 and 14 – at least 50 metresUnder 11 and 12 – at least 40 metres

Rule 2.15 Overs

In under 11 and 12 competitions an over shall not extend beyond 8 balls

A bowler shall have a minimum rest period between spells of at least the same actual number of overs bowled from the same end as the bowler’s immediately concluded spell

Over limits apply to ALL bowlers regardless of pace

Rule 2.16.1 No Balls

A ball that lands off the pitch between the stumps shall be called a “No Ball”

A ball bouncing more than twice before reaching the striker’s popping crease in Under 11 to 16 competitions shall be deemed a “No Ball”

Rule 2.16.2 Wide Balls

A wide ball can only be called by the umpire at the bowler’s end.

A wide is a ball that passes out of reach to either side of the batsman playing a “normal” cricket shot

Rule 2.17 Unfair or Careless Bowling

2.17.1 A fast ball which bounces and passes over the head of the batsman when standing at a normal batting stance shall be called a “No Ball”

2.17.2 Any fast full pitched ball which passes above waist height shall be called a “No Ball”

2.17.3 A slow delivery which passes on the full above shoulder height of the striker in his normal batting position shall be called a “No Ball”

Rule 2.20.2 First Innings Declaration

Each team (Under 12 to 16) will declare its first innings closed at the completion of 50 overs if not dismissed first.

Each team (Under 10 to 11) will declare its first innings closed at the completion of 40 overs if not dismissed first.

Any team may declare its innings closed at any time

Law 36 – Leg Before WicketThe striker is out LBW if:• The ball pitches in line between wickets or on the off side

of the striker’s wicket, and• The ball, not having previously touched his bat, the

striker intercepts the ball, either full pitch or after pitching, with any part of his person, and

• The point of impact, even if above the level of the bails, either• Is between wicket and wicket, or• Is either between wicket and wicket or outside

the line of off stump,If the striker has made no genuine attempt to play the ball with his bat and but for the interception the ball would have hit the wicket

Responsibilities of Team Officials

It is the expectation of the Executive Committee that each team will be accompanied throughout each match by two (2) Team Officials, fulfilling the roles of Umpire and Scorer. It is the responsibility of Team Officials to ensure that matches are played in the correct spirit in accordance with the Laws of Cricket and at all times meeting the requirements set out in the Rules.

Responsibilities of Team Officials cont.

It is the responsibility of Team Officials to ensure that:• The ground is prepared for play by setting the

boundary markers (Rule 2.14), placing the stumps and bails in the correct position and removing any objects, likely to be injurious to players, from the field of play;

• Play commences on time and finishes on time;• Overs are bowled at a rate which will complete

an innings within the scheduled playing time;

Responsibilities of Team Officials cont.

• Time wasting by batsmen, bowlers and fielders is eliminated;

• Appropriate clothing is worn by all players;• Unfair play is eliminated; and• The general behaviour of players, parents,

supporters, coaches and team officials, both on and off the field, meets the Laws of Cricket and the Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

Players, Team Officials, Clubs and Association Officers shall not:• Abuse or assault, either verbally or physically,

an umpire, another player or a spectator;• Dispute, as distinct from question, an umpire’s

decision, or react in an obviously provocative or disapproving manner towards an umpire, following an umpire’s decision;

• Use crude and/or abusive language or engage in any form of conduct detrimental to the spirit of the game, or likely to bring the game or the Association into disrepute;

Code of Conduct

Players, Team Officials, Clubs and Association Officers shall not:• Use crude or abusive hand signals or other

gestures at any time;• Refuse to comply with the reasonable request

of an umpire at any time during the match;• Engage in any conduct likely to damage or

jeopardise the use of playing facilities by the Association;

• Disregard or fail to support and advocate Association Rules for the Conduct of the Junior competition.
