The heat is on! Temperatures have been very warm lately and will stay warm for the next few months. It is time to be prepared.
1. Pay attention to your hydration status, and be sure to drink plenty of fluids.
2. Protect your skin and eyes with a large brimmed hat, sunscreen and sunglasses.
3. If you are leaving for the summer, do not leave your golf clubs and shoes in the garage. The heat is very hard on your equipment.
4. Stay indoors during the heat of the day. 5. Eat well-balanced, light and regular meals.
Golf Course News: The first greens aerification will be done on Sunday, May 5th and Monday, May 6th. Golfers will be able to play on Sunday as long as you tee off before 11 a.m. The golf course will be closed on Monday, May 6th and reopen on Tuesday, May 7th.
Keep in Mind: The Golf Shop and Golf Course/Driving Range will be closed on Mondays starting June 3rd through September 30th. If you are planning on playing reciprocals please make arrangements with a golf staff member.
The Play with the Pro Event remains very popular. 32 teams participated in four flights from November through April. The format, one gross score plus one net score, keeps all players involved. Thanks to everyone who participated. We will start taking Play with the Pro groups for next season starting in October. During the month of October, each member may sign up one time. Please be fair to the rest of the membership and give everyone an opportunity to play. Starting in November, you may sign up with multiple groups. Play with the Pro sweeps credit will be posted after June 1st. Your winners:

Thank you to Brian Hope for working your magic on the “Tea Pots” and finally I want to recognize the men who helped with the bag drop. You were such a big help and deserve a lot of credit for your efforts. I would like to thank the Golf Committee for their continued support. From the Greens
As the 2012 - 2013 golf season comes to a close we have been
preparing for another busy summer of cultural practices and
course improvement projects. As we did last summer, the golf
course will be closed on Mondays from June through
September (excluding Labor Day) for these procedures. In
addition to the Monday closings the following scheduled
dates and course closers are set for
dethatching and aerifying the golf
course in June:
June 3rd
- 10th back nine closed
June10th - 17
th front nine closed
(Note: Dates may be changed due to
unfavorable weather conditions.)
Along with verticutting and aerifying the fairways we will
also be including the roughs, slopes, tees and greens. The
first greens aerification will be May 5th
with the course
closing at 11:00 am that Sunday and an all day course
closing that following Monday, May 6th
to complete the
procedure. The next greens aerifications will be completed on
June16th. The summer projects include tee, drainage and
irrigation renovations and additions, some needed tree work
throughout the golf course, grassing # 5, cart path work on
#2 and new landscape plantings.
Although our rain totals have been seasonably drought-like
so far this year, the little precipitation we did get was well
received at important periods of turf stress. Historically we
don’t receive any significant rainfall until mid to late July.
On behalf of the maintenance departments, we would like to
thank all of our members for the wonderful compliments we
have received throughout this past season on the condition of
the golf course, community properties and common areas.
They have been passed on to the staff and are greatly
appreciated. Also we would like to wish all of our members
and member’s family & friends a safe and delightful summer.

TRIP'S QUIPS: RULES, TIPS, & MORE!
Wow! Where has all the time gone? It seems just like yesterday
that we were gearing ourselves up for the 2012-2013 "Season"
and now it's about over. We hope you have enjoyed your golf
season here at "The Ridge" and that we have met all your
expectations as a staff. If you have suggestions to help us
improve your golfing experience, please let us know.
Just because many of our residents are heading north for the
summer doesn't mean our golfing fun here is over. There's still
plenty of opportunity to tee it up here at "The Ridge" or
elsewhere around SW Florida through our summer reciprocal
program. Tony Duncan's Superintendent's Revenge is
scheduled for Saturday, May 4. Grab three friends and make your own tee time with the Professional Staff. The
format is a Shamble, 2 BB of 4 Net @ 80% Handicap. Our
Memorial Day Couples Event is Monday, May 27th. A cookout
follows the 8:30 shotgun. The format is Make Your Own
Foursome, 2 BB of 4 Net. Sign up on the Couples board in the
Golf Shop.
If you'd like to play an "away" game or two, stop by the Golf
Shop for your Summer Reciprocal Golf list. We have some
great courses for you to choose from! It's a great way to visit
some of the area's best courses. We'll also continue to have our
regularly scheduled Ladies and Men’s days throughout the
summer and will be trying some different formats. Remember
when playing summer golf, whether here or up north, stay
hydrated and eat a snack about every 6 holes. Your health and
game will thank you.
Your PGA Professional staff is available for private lessons at
your convenience. Half hour lessons are $40 and hour lessons
are $60. See your PGA Pros to help improve your game. Aren't
you worth it?
THE STICK
I was talking to a member
recently about rules
concerning the flagstick and
thought I'd touch upon some
rules relating to it. Here are
some things to remember:
**The flagstick consists of the pin, flag, and laser locator
indicators.
**If a person who's tending the flagstick unintentionally fails to
remove the flagstick (it gets stuck in the hole) and your ball
strikes it, you are penalized two strokes and play the ball as it lies in stroke play, and loss of hole in match play.
**If your ball strikes a flagstick or the attendant or any part of
him/her that has been removed or tended at your request, you
receive a two stroke penalty and play the ball as it lies in stroke
play and you lose the hole in match play.
**If you are off the green and your shot strikes an unattended
flagstick, there is no penalty and you play the ball where it lies.
**If you are putting on the green and your ball may hit a pin
that's been removed, you, your partner, or opponent can move
the flagstick when the ball is in motion to avoid a penalty shot.
**You may mark the position of the cup with a golf club, but all
rules pertaining to the flagstick apply to the club during the shot.
**If you ball is resting against the flagstick, the ball is
considered holed if it is below the surface of the cup. If it is not
ENTIRELY below the surface of the cup it is NOT holed. The
flagstick must be removed and if the ball drops in it is
considered holed. If it pops out and stays out of the hole, place it
on the lip and you can tap it in from there.
**If the flagstick is leaning to one side, you may leave it as it is
to play your shot or you may adjust it to its proper position.
Knowing the rules concerning the flagstick will help you avoid
unnecessary penalty strokes and make the game more enjoyable
for all. If you have any questions regarding the rules, see your
PGA Professionals.
Have a great summer everyone! Thanks for making this a great
“Season”.
Keep it in the Short Grass!
Trip Stracka, Assistant Director of Golf
Life is Good
at Hunters Ridge
The end of last year, the Board of Directors, at its
Wednesday, December 12, 2012 Board Meeting,
unanimously passed the resolution that all golf carts
used within the Hunters Ridge community, whether on
the golf course or just on the community streets, must
carry liability insurance, be registered with the
Administration Office and display the proper trackage
decals at all times.
In light of a recent accident in Hunters Ridge which
included a golf cart, if you are a golf cart owner and
have your cart insured under your “homeowners”
insurance policy, please double check with your agent
to make sure your golf cart has liability coverage. You
may have to purchase an additional “rider” policy to
have this liability coverage. You may even want to
consider insuring your golf cart under your automobile
insurance. Either way, for your own protection, please
make sure your golf cart is properly insured.
Thank you!

President’s Message
Well, this season is almost over. Seems
like it just started a few weeks ago!
This season has been great and our
Club is doing very well financially. So
far this year our committees, including
the newly formed North and South Villa Committees, are
meeting frequently, making reports at our Board meetings
and passing along recommendations to the Board and
General Manager for their consideration.
Our Board, our management staff, and our committees are
working hard on making further improvements to our
communications with the membership. No matter how much
we improve communications there is always room for
improvement.
The next several months will be a very busy and intensive
period for our Board, General Manager and his management
staff. The reason for this is as follows:
Due to the Affordable Healthcare Act, HRCA must have
whatever fulltime staffing (25 hours or more is fulltime
per State of Florida) figured out and in place by 1 July
2013 because whatever HRCA has in way of fulltime staff
as of that date is what we will be rated on as of January
1, 2014 when the Healthcare Act becomes operational.
Not getting this figured out correctly could cost all of our
membership hundreds of thousands of extra dollars in our
2014 Operating Budget.
Our Board approved the recommendations of the Golf
Committee and our General Manager at the April 25th
Board meeting to spend approximately $50,000 of golf
reserve funds for improved landscaping along hole #1 to
eventually shield us visually from I-75, reshape hole #2
cart path and the small hills left of #2 green, and
decrease the width of the cart path beside #5 green, as
well as plant new fairway turf and rough using
“Celebration Grass” a more drought resistant and full
shade and full sun resistant grass for golf courses.
Future Master Planning improvements to the Clubhouse,
Cart Barn, Snack Bar and Activities Center. Major
improvements that would be recommended will be
presented to the membership for their approval.
Couple these critically important activities with the normal
off season “paint up”, “fix up” maintenance schedule, course
verticutting and aeration and fertilizer treatment plus the
other unforeseen events of the offseason, let alone the rainy
season, and we are going to be very busy. Hope you all have
a great summer!!

HUNTERS RIDGE 2013 RECIPROCAL LIST
Hunters Ridge is happy to present the participating 2013 Reciprocal Clubs. Please read the following information about the reciprocal program: 1. Only golf members are eligible to golf at reciprocal
clubs for the published rate. 2. Social members are eligible at some courses for a
cart and greens fee. 3. A Hunters Ridge Golf Staff Member must make all
reservations. 4. When making a tee time request for a reciprocal,
pick up a request form in the Golf Shop, list players, tee time preference and course(s) you would like to play.
5. Please remember that the reciprocal clubs have their own members playing, so tee times may be limited. The Golf Staff appreciates your patience.
6. Most clubs offer a charge back to your Hunters Ridge member account; however, some only accept cash or credit card. Please consult the reciprocal information sheet or ask the Golf Shop.
7. If you should have a discrepancy with a reciprocal charge, please call the Hunters Ridge club office (do not call the reciprocal club).
We are guests at these other country clubs; please express your appreciation to the other clubs and their staff members when you visit their facilities. It truly means a great deal and helps in continuing this great program.

MEMBERSHIP MESSAGES
“Save a tree, save the planet…” Many thanks to all of
you who have helped us “save a tree” (and some
postage), by reading your monthly ScoreCard online at
our website or by email. The ScoreCard is posted there
as soon as it is completed which in most cases is three or
four days before you would receive it in the mail. If you
would like to be added to our ScoreCard “do not mail”
list, please let me know.
Many of you were so generous last year when we held a
fundraising drive to “stuff” the backpacks of the
children of staff members. Last year we raised enough to
get all of the school supplies needed plus a $75.00 gift
card for each child for other necessary items. School
clothes, etc. So, if you would like to join in this year, see
the info below.
The Architectural Review Board (ARB) has asked me to
remind you all that anything you do that would alter the
exterior of your residence must be submitted to and approved
by the ARB prior to all work being started. These requests
must be submitted to the Administration Office on the proper
ARB request form. This form is available on line or in the
Administration office. Once submission is received, the
Administration Office will contact the ARB for the approval
process to begin.
Have a safe and healthy summer, and we look forward to your
speedy return!

FOOD AND BEVERAGE NOTES
April was a very busy month for Hunters Ridge. The Aloha Party was well attended with 225 people. Everyone enjoyed the entertainment with The Mark Vee Band and Chef Monika’s Buffet was fantastic. For the first time, we had a Ventriloquist on April 24th. Those that attended had a fun night with a buffet and many laughs. Even though the crowds have died down, we have many fun things planned for those that stay will us all summer long. On the 12th of May we are celebrating “All Women” with our Mother’s Day Brunch. It will be Buffet Style with an omelet station, Grilled Salmon and much, much more for $21.95! We will be serving from 11:00 to 2:00. Reservations are required. On May 16th we have a “Special Pub Night” planned with Nevada Smith and Mark Outerbridge. The Ladies at Member Guest loved them so much, the Social Committee asked them to come back. We will be having an Italian Style Buffet that night for $18.95. Please make reservations for this event, it will definitely be a fun evening! Memorial Day is on May 27th. We will be having our annual cookout with Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and Barbeque Chicken for $13.95. The time is from 11:00 to 2:00. In May, the hours of operation for the Restaurant have changed. Lunch is served Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Dinner is served on Tuesday evenings in the Grill Room from 5:00 to 7:30. Thursday Pub Nights are from 5:00 to 7:30 and we are closed on Mondays. Please check out the “new” menus coming out in May. We are going to be offering different “summer” specials for Lunches, Dinners and Pub Nights. We hope that this will encourage everyone to keep us busy this time of year! Thank you for your continuing support throughout the year. We appreciate all of you! Kimberly Young Food and Beverage Director
Dee Davie wishes to thank our generous Hunters Ridge members as well as the
team members, including our pro, Leah Steinmiller, who all together raised
$1,125 for the 2013 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. The picture shows the
12 team members who completed the 5k event.
Check out our Website (huntersridge-ca.com), Comcast Channel 196 and the many Bulletin Boards for information
