HETRA Wins a Gypsy Vanner! … Meet Tenneson!
After months of Facebook posts and hundreds of requests to “Vote for
HETRA”, it all came together on June 11th. WE WON A GYPSY VANNER HORSE!!
LexLin Gypsy Ranch has a rich history of gifting a Gypsy Vanner Horse to
selected PATH, Intl. Premiere Accredited Equine Assisted Activities and
Therapies (EAAT) Centers across the United States. Horses impact and enrich
the lives of the developmentally disabled, sick, injured, troubled and
developing lives on a daily basis through these programs. Gypsy Horses are
ideally suited to this type of work.
Their challenge was this: Out of 850+ PATH Intl Accredited Centers, 33 were
nominated this year to win a Gypsy Vanner Horse. The Top 10 Centers, those
who received the most votes on the Gypsy Gift Facebook Page, will select a
Gypsy Gift horse based on the number of votes received. The first place
center will have the first choice, followed by the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and so forth.
HETRA earned an astonishing 15,135 votes! Putting us in 2nd Place!
Mid July, Executive Director, Edye Godden
and Horse Manager, Shelby Winnail will travel
to LexLin Gypsy Ranch in Rockwood,
Tennessee to pick up our Gypsy Vanner to
bring back to the HETRA program!
Watch your email and Facebook for more
information about Tenneson and his arrival at
the HETRA barn in mid July! We will be
hosting a “Welcome to HETRA” party later this
summer for our Gypsy horse, where you will
get a chance to meet the Gypsy, and cast one more vote to help us select a
barn name for him! MANY THANKS TO EVERY SINGLE PERSON FOR CASTING
EVERY SINGLE VOTE. IT MATTERED, IT MADE A DIFFERENCE!

Thank you for an incredible Omaha
Gives! 15,638 raised!
Many thanks to every donor who contributed to Omaha Gives on Wednesday, May 25th,
and a special acknowledgement to those who included HETRA in your gift giving!
The overall result was 789 non-profits receiving a grand total of more than $8.9 million
through online donations, bonus dollars, prizes and challenge funds!
Also impressive is that HETRA experienced a 128% increase in direct donations this year over
last year! Matching gifts from employers are still arriving, so be sure to inform your employer
of your Omaha Gives donation to HETRA, and see if your company will match it!
MEET our newest member of the HERD: “EQ”, the Equicizer
Through a very generous grant from the Meyer Foundation for
Disabilities, HETRA has a new member of the herd, “EQ”, an equicizer.
This is a spring loaded mechanical horse that helps supplement our
program and helps build strength, balance, flexibility and confidence.
With EQ at the barn HETRA is able to expand and enhance program
opportunities for those who wish to explore participation in other areas
of programming.
When in motion the equicizer closely simulates horse movement,
allowing therapists to more thoroughly evaluate a participant’s ability
to sit astride. “EQ” is most widely used at HETRA for:
New participant evaluations
Filling in for a horse unable to conduct lessons due to injury or illness.
Work with participants that are not currently able to mount and ride in the traditional fashion due to
decreased strength and balance.
The Equicizer has not eliminated the need for the HETRA horses, but has enhanced some participant’s time
at the barn. The Equicizer made his official debut on May 14 during a collaborative event with Autism
Action Partnership, where 84 participants from Autism Action Partnership came to the barn for an event
day. Participants circulated among several stations to learn and interact with the HETRA horses, staff, and
volunteers.

SPECIAL THANKS! Thank you to the following foundations, grants, businesses and individuals who made the following donations
and contributions to HETRA this quarter:
Born 2 Ride ~ Learn 2 Ride ~ Live 2 Ride ~ Love 2 Ride
That’s Why We Drive 2 Ride!
“Drive 2 Ride” is one of HETRA’s main fundraising events of the year, with HETRA
families leading the fundraising effort that supports HETRA’s Participant
Sponsorship Fund.
Last year's Drive 2 Ride Campaign involved 34 HETRA families,
raising $63,134. UNPRECEDENTED!
Our Goal for this year is 50 HETRA families, raising $70,000.
50 Families – 60 days - $70,000
How does it work:
HETRA families: complete an easy registration survey by August 20th. Provide your favorite photo of
your HETRA rider, set a fundraising goal, and HETRA staff will create your online fundraising page.
HETRA Community: Make a donation to your favorite HETRA participant(s).
It’s that simple! And . . . when each Drive to Ride Team reaches the following
fundraising benchmarks, they EARN FREE HETRA SESSIONS! That’s SIGNIFICANT!
Teams Raising $500 = $100 discount on participant sessions
Teams Raising $1,000 = 12 Free Sessions (1 course)
Teams Raising $2,000 = 24 Free Sessions (2 courses)
And so forth. For every $1,000 raised, the HETRA participant will earn a free
course, (maximum of 4 courses for an entire year . . . FREE!)
The Participant Sponsorship Fund provides the critical support to HETRA that enables us to keep our
participant fees to our families as low as possible. Through Drive 2 Ride, HETRA is able to replenish this
fund for next year, and continue to provide our equine assisted activities and therapies at greatly
reduced rates for all of our families.

Where horses and you MADE dreams come true!
“Blue Jeans and Dreams”, held April 23rd at the HETRA Barn was our most exciting benefit
event to date. Thank you to everyone who attended, made a donation to our auction,
or participated as a sponsor. To all of our attendees, (and in case you missed it), we
would like to share with you some of the highlights of the evening.
Exceeding Expectations:
Blue Jeans and Dreams raised just over $123,000 . . . an all-time high for HETRA! This
funding will support over 120 HETRA participants every week (supporting 1,078 sessions in
2016)! That’s significant!
Over $44,500 was raised in the Silent and Live Auction alone!
Through support of our community partners, $39,600 was raised in Sponsorships.
With over 550 tickets sold to the event, we packed the barn!
We hope you know just how much your support of Blue Jeans and
Dreams makes a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities!
We simply could not have reached our fundraising goal and meet the
needs of our HETRA families without your support.
We’re ready to do it all over again!

By joining the Karat Club, you are helping to build a sustaining membership of
individuals willing and able to support the HETRA Participant Sponsorship Program.
For a family with a child or adult with a disability, the cost of cumulative, clinical

be cost prohibitive. HETRA works diligently to ensure our program is affordable
for all participants and families, regardless of their financial situation or ability to
pay. Your membership makes this all possible!
