Avoca Beach Public School is committed to providing a safe and caring environment where individuals are respectful, responsible and strive for their personal best.

Our innovative, collaborative and inclusive culture empowers and supports every learner.

Dear Parents, Thank you to everyone for their support and understanding in this very stressful time. This certainly is a challenging period for all of us and with much uncertainty, we have been trying to keep everyone informed as information comes from the Department of Education and NSW Health. We celebrated Harmony Day last Friday. Mrs Anderson and Mrs Ayton did an amazing job putting together our whole school Harmony Day artwork. This day was also about togetherness and kindness, about sharing experience and knowledge, which was very timely in light of recent world events. Our very best chance for a happy and harmonious future comes with what our students learn together every day in our rich and diverse school communities. I commend the students and teachers at Avoca Beach for always showing tolerance and respect. Rebel Sport Another reminder that Rebel Sport’s community kickbacks program is up and running. If you sign up for a loyalty card with Rebel Sport or already have one, you can nominate Avoca Beach PS every time you make a purchase and Rebel will donate 5% of all purchases back to the school to spend in-store and provide more resources for the students at our school. Dogs on School Grounds No dogs are allowed on our school grounds. If you see someone with their dog on the grounds could you please remind them of this rule, which has been made to ensure the safety of every child. The Council rangers may be called if a dog is seen on the school grounds. Something of interest – Dogs on School Grounds: Under the NSW Companion Animals Act 1998 No 87 owners of dogs must: · Be 18 years of age or over · Leash their dog when in a public place · Ensure their dog wears a collar and identification tag when in a public place · Ensure their dog does not enter a food consumption area or wild life protection area · Ensure their dog does not enter a school or child care playground and any other place declared prohibited to dogs by Council The NSW Consolidated Act pertaining to dogs’ states dogs are prohibited in some public places. Section (e) of the Act specifically refers to schools and states that this applies to dogs whether they are leashed or unleashed. The exceptions are assistance dogs that are specifically trained to assist those who are sight or hearing impaired. 8778Avoca Beach Public School Newsletter Term 1 Week 9 Cricket Round 1 V Kincumber PS

Avoca Beach was too strong for Kincumber this year, winning 2/98 to 7/50. There was a great partnership between Ethan and Jacob who batted most of the innings to get the points on the board. Following that, it was a team effort with the catches taken and all the bowlers keeping the run rate down or taking wickets. Monty Lowbridge started with 2 wickets off his first over and the other memorable effort was Ethan getting 2 wickets off his first 2 balls of the day to be on a hattrick but just missed out. Well done boys on a fine effort played with excellent sportsmanship. Craig Blanch (Coach)

PBL Week 9 Hygiene This week it is timely that our PBL focus is how to be respectful, responsible and do our personal best in the area of

hygiene. Students will recognise the importance of treating others respectfully by politely keeping a safe distance,

particularly during eating times. Habits such as coughing into a tissue (which is then put straight into a bin) and

greeting with an elbow bump instead of a hug are ways students show they are taking responsibility for the health of

themselves and others. Our school expectations require students to demonstrate their personal best by keeping

their hands away from their faces, objects out of mouths and washing hands with soap for at least 20 seconds.

PBL Week 10 Uniform Next week our PBL focus is on how to be respectful and responsible regarding the wearing of school uniform. Students will recognise that showing respect means wearing full uniform with pride each day. Students and their families take responsibility for labelling hats and jumpers clearly so any lost items can be returned. Students are responsible for keeping track of their hats and jumpers by putting them on hooks or in bags whenever the item is not being worn. Our school expectations require students to take responsibility for their own health by wearing a hat in the playground at all times. Finally, our personal best effort is to organise ourselves to be in uniform every day, recognising that it shows that we are part of a wonderful team – “Team Avoca Beach Public School”.
