Lt.GovernorSkillmanPresents2010AgriVisionAwardandRedGoldStewardshipAward

TodayLt.GovernorBeckySkillmanpresentedthe2010AgriVisionAwardtoJoAnnBrouilletteofDemeterLPinFowler,Ind.,forherdeepcommitmenttoIndianaagriculture.Theaward,initsthirdyear,isgiventoaHoosierwhohasdemonstratedexemplaryleadershiptomaximizethepotentialofIndianaagriculture.ItwaspresentedattheCelebrationofAgricultureeventattheIndianaStateFair.“WecallittheAgriVisionawardforareason,”Lt.GovernorSkillmansaid.“Ittakesvisionandleadershiptomakeacompanygrowandevolve,andJoAnnhascertainlydonethatwithDemeter.”JoAnnistheManagingPartnerandPresidentofDemeterLP.Startedin1944,DemeterisownedbytheBrouilletteFamilyandwasheadquarteredinFowler,Indiana,untilamergerwithArcherDanielsMidlandCompanyin1996.UnderJoAnn’sleadership,DemeterLPwasorganizedtoretaintheleasesonthenorthernIllinoisandWisconsinelevatorsandthecorporateoffice.Throughoutthecompany’shistory,JoAnnhasdemonstratedherbusinesssavvyinguidingthefamilybusinesssuccessfullythroughthesaleofDemeter,Inc.,aswellasfosternewgrowthasDemeterLP.AlsoattheCelebrationofAgriculture,Lt.GovernorSkillmanandRedGoldDirectorofAgricultureSteveSmithpresentedthe2ndAnnualRedGoldStewardshipAwardtoTonyRhorsofRohrsBrothersinDeshler,Ohio.TheRedGoldStewardshipAwardrecognizesoneRedGoldgrowernationwidefortheirconservationefforts.TonyRhorsandhisfamilyuseaholisticconservationcroppingsystemapproachonalloftheiracres.TheRhorsalsoemployaheavyuseofprecisionagricultureandmappingtomanageinputsmoreefficiently.Inaddition,theyhavehadtremendoussuccessusingcovercropsaftertomatoesandno‐tillingcornintothecovercropthefollowingyear.ThroughTony’sdiversifiedoperation,includingagreenhousebusiness,hehasexemplifiedhowconservationandproductionagricultureareverycloselytiedandresultinwinsforthepocket‐bookandtheenvironment.
