Message from the President October, 2016
"There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on, and produce so
pleasant an effect on the feelings, as now in October."
Nathaniel Hawthorne
I think I took the month of September off. I am not sure what I did, only sure of what I did not
do. I did not start any new craft projects; I did not read any life altering books; I did not do
any home repairs. Since I have had a month of nothing I will now pay the price. Any projects
slated for the fall and winter holidays must now be started. That book loaned to me by a
friend must now be read and digested. I will get those minor home maintenance items done---
change the furnace filters, change the batteries in the smoke alarms, etc. But before any of
those things get done, I am going to sit on my patio and enjoy the blue skies and breezes that
come this month. It is said that there are 29 fine days in October and I encourage you all to
enjoy every one.
Regards,
Anita Timbrook
Notes from the Board:

Thank you to RaeAnn Thompson and Michele Shaw for organizing these groups.

This month we will be viewing a very special facility a "ferme ornee" which translated means "ornamented farm." The current owners purchased this 23 acre site eight years ago when it consisted of a run down farm house and overgrown yard. The owners immediately began the renovation of the farm house and the clearing and planning for the garden. Many truckloads of soil were brought in to contour a pond and many more truckloads of manure and compost were brought in to enhance the growing properties of the soil. Since it is a farm one path leads to a pasture where black and white Belted Galloway cattle graze. Another path leads to a chicken yard where free range chickens roam. Other paths lead to a vineyard, a rose garden and fruit orchard. There is also an outdoor living area. Lunch will follow at a local restaurant. When: Tuesday, October 25 at 10:30 am Where: North Raleigh - address to be revealed when you sign up RSVP: by Friday, October 21 to Shirley at [email protected]
