Greetings!
During times like now, I think of the BenjaminFranklin quote "out of adversity comesopportunity". This could never be morerelevant, as we continue to make our waythrough the pandemic that has turned everyaspect of our lives upside down. We mustfind the opportunities that get presented to usduring these challenging times and makethem a reality.
As a professional association, ACT'straditional programs and services that bring our members and TDMprofessionals together for in-person learning and networking, aresimply not possible. Instead, we have looked for new ways to addressthe needs of our members and commuters.
ACT launched a virtual discussion series, which has averaged over125 participants each week to discuss a variety of issues related to theimpacts of COVID-19. While we will host its final gathering on June 5th,we will relaunch the program after the summer as a permanentaddition to ACT's member services.
Two task forces were formed based on member interest to dive deeperinto addressing the impacts of COVID-19 on commuting. One, focusedon developing a resource material to Support Commuters Returning toWork During COVID-19, which was released on May 27th and is a freeresource available on ACT's website.
The other is developing a national survey to gather information fromcommuters on potential mode shift and perceptions of safety as theystart to plan their return to their worksites. This survey tool will beavailable for all members to utilize with the hopes of gatheringsignificant data that will help employers and communities understandthe needs of commuters.
Finally, it is with great excitement to report that ACT has succeeded informally introducing our MORE Through TDM Act in Congress.Introduced by Rep. Lipinski (D-IL), the bill now has three additional co-sponsors. I encourage all TDM professionals to learn more about howyou can help advance this important piece of legislation.
We understand that some of our members may be dealing with theirown challenges during this time. Please reach out to us if there isanything that we might be able to do to assist you and yourorganization through this unique period.
Best regards,
David StrausExecutive Director
New COVID-19 Resource to Support CommutersAs public health concerns remain elevated during
the COVID-19 pandemic, it is understandablethat commuters might turn to single-occupancyvehicles to preserve their personal health andcontinue physical distancing when worksitesreopen. To better support commuters returning towork, ACT gathered a team of TDMprofessionals to evaluate and present keyrecommendations by mode for employers, transportation service providers, and commuters.
We hope this document can serve as a valuableresource over the coming months as millions ofworkers return to the workplace.
ACT fully supports sharing this resourcewithin your communities. Tag us at
