What this has achieved…
• NEPI has increased the nurse – midwife workforce – effectively combating maternal and infant mortality and HIV/AIDS and communicable diseases which have decimated populations in Africa
• Increased students clinical skills and competencies through construction, renovation and refurbishment of clinical simulation laboratories
• Strengthening nurse – led teaching and learning models – NIMART
• Supporting nursing policy environment which impacts nursing education and training through partnerships with various stakeholders
• Health workforce retention – innovative training in rural, hard – to reach areas
• Task – shifting – nurses taking on some physician roles and community health workers taking on some nurses roles
• Multidisciplinary teaching and learning with other cadres – doctors, pharmacists and medical laboratory technologists
• Strengthening the participation of African nurses and midwives to participate in south – to south exchange and learning
