2015 MINISTRY REPORT
the untold story
W e all have a sense of yearning to release what we are holding inside. When we read a compelling story that shows how God has shifted someones life, it strengthens our faith, and we know that we are not alone. That is the power of the written word as it bears witness to His Truth in our lives and that is why our stories must be told.
At the National Christian Foundation (NCF), we have the privilege of playing a small part in Gods big story as we serve the countrys largest community of generous givers, advisors, ministries, and churches. Their personal testimonies of the causes they support and the communities they love allow us to catch a glimpse of an expansive, beautiful story ... beyond what any of us could ever imagine.
This is the encouraging perspective that we want to share with you here. In contrast to todays news headlines filled with evil, we know there are countless stories of Gods love that remain untold. But we must never let it be so. God has a story, and so do we, and it can transform the hearts around us.
His story connects us.
Our stories are the way we document our faith.
The story matters.
Let it be told!
GODS LOVE IS A STORY ...
And let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on JESUS, THE AUTHOR and perfecter of faith. Hebrews 12:1-2

NCFS UNIQUE ROLE IN THE GENEROSITY MOVEMENT GROWS
True to our name, NCF is a national network of givers who are working to further the generosity movement in the areas they care about the most: their local communities. With offices across the country serving givers in their cities and surrounding regions and with support from our national office in Atlanta this grass-roots distinction is what makes us so relevant and responsive to todays Christian givers.
As the generosity movement in America expands, more people are turning to NCF to provide a framework for creating a generous community in their areas.
One example is a group of givers coming together in New York City to pave the way for a new NCF local office. At a recent meeting in Manhattan, NCFs Jeff Johns met with a group of over 25 business leaders from all over the area. Jeff explains, Givers in New York are so hungry for unity and a sense of focused purpose. One businessman has been driving over two hours to get together with others because he has no Christian giving community here in the Northeast.
This group has met informally for some time as an NCF Generosity Council, joining to pray and explore ways they can combine to make an impact for Christ in their community. Soon, they plan to become an NCF local office with full-time staff available to serve givers. Ed Morgan (pictured to the right, in the red tie) says, New York City is so focused on money. We want to help our friends to focus on generosity.
And local generosity champion Janice Worth adds, Can you imagine what God can do when givers in one of the worlds greatest centers for commerce come together to seek Him? We love New York, and we love New York giving!

If we love God, then the things that break His heart will break ours too. From the thief on the cross to the woman at the well and all the sinners, tax collectors, and everyone else in between Jesus went out of His way at every turn to offer salvation to every soul lost without hope. Thats why evangelism is at the heart of so many NCF givers. Here are just a few of the exciting ways that NCF givers are helping to spread the Good News.
DEPLOYING THE WORDThe mission to deploy Scripture to our armed forces began during the first Gulf War with NCF giver John Moore. As a serviceman in the Air National Guard, John says, I wanted to provide spiritual back up. So he developed a plan with the Albuquerque-based audio Scripture ministry, Faith Comes by Hearing. Through a gift from John and his wife, Connie, Operation Desert Sword sent out 30,000 copies of camouflaged New Testaments shrink-wrapped with audiocassettes of the Gospel of Mark.
Now the program has evolved into a special black MP3 player for military field conditions. John and Connie helped fund the first order of these digital Bible Sticks, and demand has grown exponentially. Morgan Jackson, President of Faith Comes by Hearing, explains, Because chaplains cant go out with troops into the field, the Bible Sticks are like a chaplain in a box. Over half a million men and women roughly 20% of the military have been touched with the Word so far.
YEARNING FOR YOUTHWhen NCF giver Terry Leprino was in ninth grade, her Young Life leader was the first person to help her encounter a personal relationship with Jesus. From that moment, Terry remembers praying, God, I want to help young people know Jesus. So even though Terry is heir to the Leprino cheese fortune the company that supplies 90% of the worlds mozzarella cheese she has chosen to dedicate her life to serving as a Young Life leader.
One of the kids that touched her heart is a boy named J.J. This kid is so sweet. He grew up with both of his grandmas taking care of him, in a gang neighborhood, says Terry. He came to Young Life camp and had an experience with Jesus that changed his life. Now he says, I want to put myself in places where there are healthy choices. Terry says, People are intimidated by teens, but if you can get past the first few pushes, they just want to be loved.

ALIGNING FOR IMPACTIf you think of the Bible as a printed book, you may want to think again. Under the visionary leadership of NCF giver Mart Green, the worlds major Bible translation ministries have aligned to catapult Bible ministry into a new digital age. Known as Every Tribe Every Nation, the alliance includes Biblica, Wycliffe Bible Translators USA, and the American Bible Society.
At the center of their efforts is the Digital Bible Library. This digital Scripture repository draws Biblical texts into one easy-to-access location to provide ministries and missionaries the ability to access Bible content from their mobile devices in a variety of formats, including audio, video, apps, websites, and print on demand. God put the issue of Bible poverty on my heart in a significant way, says Mart. Our goal is to mobilize resources across our alliance so that by 2033, every tribe and every nation in the world has access to Gods Word in their heart language.

As human beings, our minds, bodies, and souls never stand still. Were either growing and maturing, or were stagnating. In a world where pain and evil abound, its easy for us to grow cold. Thats why many of our givers are passionate about doing everything it takes to encourage positive growth in others. These are just a few of the inspiring stories that demonstrate how loves wins every time.
FOSTERING NEW HOPENCF givers Allin and Barbara Foulkrod were just two years away from their kids leaving for college when Barbara made a startling revelation: I think the Lord wants us to host foster children. Allins first response was a firm no. But then his 16-year-old daughter, Anna, encouraged him to meet Jordan. Jordan was a troubled nine-year-old boy who Anna had befriended through Hope Reins, the local equine therapy ministry in Raleigh, NC, where she and Barbara volunteer.
Soon the Lord began to work on Allins heart, and it wasnt long before the Foulkrods opened their home to Jordan. Today, Jordan is a hopeful young man at 14. Before, my life was from place to place, says Jordan. Finally, I found a place that I belonged. Barbara adds, The convenient life isnt what its all cracked up to be. We have such great love stories with Jordan and the other kids weve helped because weve asked the Lord to use us, however He wants.

NAVIGATING WITH GRACEBert de Vries has always loved the sea. But with a terminal diagnosis of ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease), this former surgeon is sailing into uncharted waters. When his friend, NCF giver Roy Moore, learned about a big obstacle in Berts life, he had to help. I was thinking about buying a boat at the time, says Roy. When I heard about Berts need for a specially equipped van, it was like God said, This is the land boat that Bert needs. I didnt want it to be something he could get-by with. I wanted it to be a testimony.
Though Bert and his wife, Christine, could have afforded a basic van on their own, they were moved by Roys generosity. This disease has taken me from knowing God was in control of my life to giving up control of my life, says Bert. I have no special skills left to offer. If the chief purpose of man is to glorify God, thats all I have left. And Roy says, thats the lesson for us all.
INVESTING IN SMILESWhen NCF giver Dr. Doug Cloud retired from his dental practice, he thought he was hanging up his white coat for good. But God had other plans that led him to help establish a volunteer dental clinic at East Central Ministries in a transitional neighborhood in downtown Albuquerque. As a race car enthusiast, Doug wasnt ready to let any grass grow under his feet during retirement. But he says, Sometimes God comes along and suddenly youre on the ride of your life.
Every day Doug is inspired by the patients he serves at the clinic. He recalls one gentleman who had never had his front teeth. When I fitted him for dentures, he stared in the mirror and cried, Doug explains. He could not believe he finally had his teeth. He didnt even know it was possible. And thats what this ministry is all about showing everyone we serve that anything is possible with God.

Under every solid physical structure, youll find steady support beams that maintain a strong foundation. In the spiritual world, its no different. Thats why so many of our givers support ministries who work to undergird the Body of Christ through prayer, generosity, and many other vital support roles. Here are a few of the ways they inspire others.
SHARING THE PASSIONAs President of NCF Tampa Bay, Bob Collins loves looking for ways to share his passion for generosity with the givers he serves. So recently, he teamed up with Todd Harper, President of the stewardship ministry Generous Giving, to organize a Journey of Generosity (JOG) event. All of the Board members of NCF Tampa Bay and their spouses gathered at their Chairmans condo on Longboat Key, FL, to focus on the generous life from Friday afternoon until noon on Saturday (see photo above). During the event, the couples grew closer and had meaningful generosity conversations.
A few made real commitments to control spending, give more radically, and trust God even more, says Bob. And many decided to convene their own JOGs with their church or go to a JOG facilitator training so they can learn how to lead their own retreats.
Chris Peifer (pictured above, on the right), Board Chairman for NCF Tampa Bay says, Im so blessed to have hosted this event. I encourage anyone who wants to live more generously to consider hosting a JOG themselves.

ENCOURAGING THE STEWARDNCF giver Jeff Thomas loves his job as a professional advisor. But he wasnt always this joyful. During my first 10 years as an advisor, I had my head down, building financial plans and investment strategies for clients, says Jeff. But then I woke up and realized that I did not want my epitaph to be, Here lies Jeff, he made rich people richer. Jeff was inspired to go deeper with his clients to help them think beyond themselves and discover the joy of giving.
My calling is to pour into the lives of high-capacity givers to help them discern their God-given calling and to give them the oxygen to live it out. My primary delivery system for doing this is my financial advisory firm, says Jeff. My personal giving reflects this calling, too. I give to organizations that have helped train me to be a better steward of Gods gifts to me. I understand how important it is to encourage the encourager.
SPREADING THE JOYAs a founding supporter of the ministry Generous Giving, NCF giver Hugh O. Maclellan, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, have chosen to give away a minimum of 70% of their income every year to significant ministry projects. Hugh says, This approach has turned out to be such a blessing because it broke the power of money in our lives.
One year, after an increase in his giving and a downturn in his business, Hugh discovered that one of his assets had lost considerable value. Instead of thinking that he gave away more than he could afford, Hugh thought just the opposite, I wished that Id given more of it away while I still had it. He also challenges givers to identify the barriers that keep them from being more generous. If you ask God to deal with you in those areas, He will!

In so many ways, todays local churches embody the spirit of everything we do at NCF. These congregations are dedicated to preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, serving the needs of the poor, promoting justice, changing the culture, and on and on. Were blessed to support churches because theyre the hands and feet on the frontlines of ministry ... doing Gods work in communities nationwide.
3 WAYS TO SUPPORT YOUR CHURCH WITH YOUR GIVING FUND1. Give exclusively through your Fund A growing number of NCF givers have stopped dropping checks in the offering plate and set up ongoing grants from their Fund instead. Then, their reports on NCFs website truly show 100% of their giving each year.
2. Set up recurring grant schedules A great way to stay consistent with your church support is to create weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual schedules from your Fund. NCF sends grant checks for you automatically ... even when youre traveling.
3. Send grants anonymously If theres a particularly special or large grant youd like to make to your church (perhaps for a capital campaign), you can mark your grant as anonymous, and your church wont ever see your name on the check.

Rich man, poor man, the haves and the have-nots. Extreme poverty separates much of the world into a corner where there is very little security, opportunity, or hope. But just as Jesus willingly crossed this great divide, many of our givers are pressing into the places where few are willing to go. Here are a few examples of how God is empowering generous givers to tear down the walls that stand between the poor and the abundance that He desires for us all.
CREATING NEW DREAMSWhen Seattle giver Steve Bell took his first vision trip to El Salvador in 2001, he visited a slum where he noticed two little boys pretending to play with cars as they pushed sticks around in the mud. Suddenly, Steve thought, Will they ever have a vehicle of their own? What age will they be when their dreams of a better life get crushed?
These thoughts inspired Steve and his wife, Carolyn, to take a huge leap of faith to sponsor the entire
village of La Esperanza through the Central American ministry, Agros International. Despite tough challenges in their business, the Bells were able to honor their commitment for 10 years through miraculous provision from God. Today, the village is prospering and Steve says his village friend, Jose William, sums it up best, More than running water, warm homes, schools, and farms, youve helped us believe that we can do more than we ever dreamed.

AID FOR ADOPTIONWhile attending the University of Florida, Tim Tebow, like most college students, had always loved spring break. What made him unique, however, was this Heisman winner spent his spring break sharing the Gospel with orphans in his birth country, the Philippines. Today, the Tim Tebow Foundation, a NCF supporting organization, serves children around the world. Part of their ministry is their Orphan Care program, which provides housing, food, clothing, education, medical care, and the good news of the Gospel to more than 2,000 children in need in four different countries.
Additionally, the foundations Adoption Aid program provides grants to families who have made the courageous decision to adopt an international child with special needs. To date, the foundation has provided more than 40 adoption aid grants, and 24 children have come home to their forever families. Caring for orphans has been a passion of mine since my first mission trip when I was 15, said Tebow. As a foundation, we want to put our arm around them and tell them that God loves them and has a plan for their life.
EMPOWERING WITH DIGNITYNCF givers Russell and Beverly Ginn support HOPE International, an innovative charity on the forefront of microenterprise development. Beverly and I look for ministries that serve the least of these physically and spiritually and help restore lives with dignity, says Russell.
HOPE International provides small loans to help needy individuals create self-sustaining businesses. One such person is Prerna, a mother of five from a rural village in west India. Prerna dreamed of saving enough money to send her children to school, an impossible hope for a part-time day laborer with no education. Through HOPE, Prerna joined a savings group and eventually accessed a loan to purchase a flourmill, equipping her to provide this valuable service in her community. Today, all her children attend school and she is growing in her faith and prospering in business. Russell says, I love supporting a cause that helps people like Prerna change the course of their lives for generations.

Whether swirled out on a canvas, lifted up in a song, or expressed in a healthy marriage, there is a movement of the Spirit in todays culture to focus on what is good, true, and beautiful. Some charities celebrate the creative arts, while others are shaping lives by ministering to individuals and families. Meet some of the givers in our network who are creating authentic connections and working to uphold Christ in a troubled world.
ACTING ON LOVEBetween auditions and rehearsals, NCF givers Devon Ogden and Jessica Davis (above) are changing the lives of female genocide survivors and orphans in Rwanda. When these young L.A. actresses first volunteered in Rwanda, they knew that they had to do something. So Devon created Safi Life, a ministry that helps give Rwandan girls a chance for life-changing higher education. Recently, Devon and Jessica traveled to Rwanda with a group of filmmakers to begin making a documentary about forgiveness, hope, and progress.
Their ministry is named after Safi Umukundwa, who also serves as the organizations director in Kigali, Rwanda. This brave young woman survived the Rwandan genocide against Tutsi when she was only eight years old. Safi put herself through secondary school, was awarded funding for a university education, and now works with other young women. Devon says, Safis life serves as a powerful reminder of what women can achieve even amidst the most difficult circumstances.

SPEAKING THROUGH ARTAs a painter, NCF giver Laura Pflug (right) hopes to encourage other artists to see their work in another light. Laura explains, Art speaks to people, so why not see it as another way that God speaks to people? By donating all of the proceeds from her work, she is also using her talent to further giving in a unique way. It deeply satisfies me when someone connects with a painting that Ive created, Laura says. And on top of that, they get excited by the idea of partnering with me for generosity.
Lauras art has been used to minister in ways that she never imagined. I pray for God to inspire names for the paintings, says Laura, and so often, they have special meaning to the person who ends up with the painting. Telling these stories has allowed me to share the Gospel with friends. It often shocks but always inspires. I love the creativity of God!
SUPPORTING THE FAMILYOver 25 years of marriage, Charlie Stinson and his wife, Sheri, have developed a strong Biblical worldview that puts faith and family first, just like one of their favorite ministries. Charlie explains, When you consider the current state of marriage and the modern parenting challenges we face, it is easy to see why we have a passion for Focus on the Family. From their website, programs, broadcasts, and employees, they are making a positive difference in so many lives.
Charlie shares this example from a woman that works at his business: I was exhausted trying to care for my autistic son and two older children. Our family was in financial crisis also and my husband had become addicted to drugs in an attempt to cope. So I called Focus on the Family. The counselor there was sincere and caring. He prayed with me and helped me create a plan of action with counselors in my area and specific resources. I am forever grateful for their ministry.

From the coffee we all drink to the soccer balls our kids kick around, from the bricks in our walls to the carpet beneath our feet, the evidence of modern slavery is everywhere in the products made by the hands of slaves. So much injustice remains unseen. Thats why givers at NCF are shining the light of Gods hope into the horrific darkness of forced labor, sex trafficking, child exploitation, and other crimes against humanity. Here are a few examples of our freedom fighters.
FREEING THE CHILDREN From a young age, NCF giver Paul Myers knew he wanted to be a dad because he loved kids. This passion became even greater when he and his wife, Laura, learned about the plight of children trapped in sex trafficking. Paul says, Its staggering to think child exploitation is happening, but child exploitation is worse than ever before.
Paul and Laura are passionate to bring justice through the work of a ministry called Love146. We were so
moved by how it got its name, says Paul. He explains that when founder Rob Morris went undercover at a brothel in Southeast Asia, he witnessed a room of girls watching cartoons, waiting to be sold for sex. All of their eyes were vacant except for one little girl who stared piercingly back through the glass. The number pinned to her dress was 146. Paul says, Its a horror so unimaginable that people dont want to talk about it. But Jesus went out of His way to rescue the oppressed. And if we dont speak up for these kids, who will?

SEIZING THE DAYLike most of us, NCF giver Zach Hunter grew up learning about the great abolitionists of American history, such as Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass. But in seventh grade, Zach became aware of the fact that slavery still exists for 27 million men, women, and children who are trapped in some form of forced labor. Unlike most kids his age, he decided to do something about it. So at 12, he launched the Loose Change to Loosen Chains (or LC2LC) campaign and raised $10,000 in his church and school.
Today, Zach is 21 years old, and LC2LC has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and ignited a new generation of abolitionists. Zach says, This morning when you woke up, there were people who were hoping that today might be the day that someone steps between them and their oppressors. Dont wait for someone else, or someday. You are that someone, and today is the day.
RESCUING THE HELPLESSFor 35 years, NCF giver Gary Veurink enjoyed a lucrative career as a top executive. But he says nothing compares to his current role as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the International Justice Mission (IJM). IJM is the largest nonprofit working to combat slavery, sex trafficking, and other abuse against the poor.
Recently, IJM opened a new office in Ghana. Gary says that one of their top investigators there gave this report, I will never forget one boy. He was about 18 years old, but told how he was trafficked into slavery at 11. Covered head to toe in scars, he said he was beaten every single day for seven years by his master. There was a five-year-old in his boat, too. He would share that same fate. Gary adds, You have to realize there is no 911 for most of the world. This is why Im fighting to make sure someone is there when the powerless cry for help.

As we reflect on these financials, we are reminded of all the lives who are involved in the story behind the numbers. From the givers we serve to the charities that receive grants, we are grateful for those God is touching through this ministry. We stand in awe as we continue to experience His grace and favor, and every day, we will remain faithful to our mission of advancing His Kingdom.
It took 24 years for us to grant our billionth dollar to charity. It took three years to grant the second billion, two years to grant the third and fourth each, and only 18 months to reach our five billion dollar grant milestone.
