COMMUNICATION AND MOBILISATION

All stakeholders informed

X

Must see communication as ongoing. District Municipalities; Provincial Departments. Mobilising, organising and educating farmers

FARMER SUPPORT

On-going, and survey will assist to focus and coordinate production

X

At least 5 production areas plotted X

Survey / profiling of farmers is important in identifying required support for meeting targeted market supplies. This will also require mapping out Zero Hunger economic zone, determined by distance. Are the 5 production areas economic zones?

FARMER SUPPORT

Support to farmers, • Infrastructure; Inputs; Institutional ;

Training; Logistics; Market linkages• Frances Baard Broiler Park (R10million);

Renovation of 5 Chicken houses and storage facilities. Feasibility studies almost completed for hatchery & feed mill establishment. Frances Baard Crop Production Hub (R5,9m) will concentrate on mechanisation and production inputs. Training through CASP and other S/Hs

X X X X X X X X X X X X

We must plan farmer support in a way that renders them “market ready” i.e. supplying ZH markets; the plans must also anticipate the time frames of production cycles and supply.

The model for market, infrastructure and institutional arrangements will be piloted in Francis Baard. Partnerships with Food Bank South Africa, SAPA (poultry) and Kumba Mines is underway for John Taolo Gaetsewe.

The business model must be dealt with as well. Partnership must further see how Zero hunger could be strengthened, further demonstrating types of systems required.
