Blew, Recent Works by Deb Todd Wheeler
At Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site
Cornish, NH –The opening exhibition at the Picture Gallery at Saint-Gaudens National Historic
Site, will highlight recent works by artist, Deb Todd Wheeler. The public is invited to an opening
reception in the Picture Gallery, Saturday, June 4, 2011, from 4:30-6:00 p.m., with a talk by the artist
at 5:00 p.m. The reception and artist talk are free and open to the public. The exhibition will be on
view daily 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from June 4 through July 4, 2011
Deb Todd Wheeler is a Boston area artist who produces installations, sculptural objects, and other
media, on themes of man’s interaction with the environment. Wheeler’s work explores the aesthetic
impact of human productivity in the natural world. For example, in 1988, a patch of plastic debris the
size of Texas was discovered floating in the Pacific Ocean, capturing the imagination of many and
providing evidence that much of what we make never really leaves us. In Blew, an exhibition of
Wheeler’s photographs, video, and found objects, she explores qualities of this ubiquitous material
(blown film polyethylene). When manipulated into forms on a scanner, and then printed, as in her
work, Men of War, it can recall sea creatures against an inky black background.
These exhibits are sponsored annually by the Trustees of the Saint-Gaudens Memorial in cooperation
with Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site. The Saint-Gaudens Memorial is a non-profit partner of the
National Park Service, helping to support the mission of Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site. For
