Due to the activities of the National Bioresource Project (NBRP) which started since 2002, access to research bioresources has improved remarkably. The information on bioresources which was obtained through this project is fully disclosed on our website (http://www.nbrp.jp/). The 27 types of public databases have distinctive structures that reflect the characteristic of each organism and fulfill the needs of the research community. The procedures to request for most of the resources can be conducted online. At the information center, we strive to utilize our data efficiently to provide new value-added information. Cross-species searches for resources such as keyword search, sequence homology search and gene ontology search are provided. In addition to collecting and publicizing journals of researches that use resources provided by NBRP, we are planning to expand the utilization of resources through the interoperability with genome databases and related databases of other countries.
