Water-cooled chillers
1heat pumps - aIR CONDItIONING - ReFRIGeRatION - aIR haNDLING - heat eXChaNGe - nA 12.538 B
Use The water-cooled packaged LG DYNACIAT series of chillers-heaters are especially designed to supply chilled or hot water with a middle capacity for air conditioning application systems encountered in collective and commercial buildings, as well as industrial premises and processes. These packaged units are designed to be implanted as standard indoors in a technical plant, sheltered against adverse weather and frost.
To operate in COOLING mode, these units must be cooled by a water circulation coming from an external source, such as underground water or city water if using a water flow control valve, or connected to an external water drycooler or a cooling tower.
On a water supply, the LGP series can be used as a heat pump during winter time.
Connected to a underfloor heating or cooling system, fan coil units or an air handling unit, a LGP series heat pump provides heating and air conditioning of buildings thanks to a set of valves located on the water circuit (not supplied).
Each unit is assembled, internally wired (logic and starting box), charged with refrigerant, and is subject to a operation test in the factory.
The installation work is simple, and the only operations required on site are electrical wiring and water piping connections.
DYNACIAT LG series units are supplied as standard with the following components:- water cooled condenser,- chiller evaporator,- capacity control system on outlet chilled or hot water,- logic, control and starting electric box :. Power supply : 3~50Hz 400V (+6%/-10%) + earth. Logic circuit : 1~50Hz 230V (+6%/-10%)(transformers are mounted on the unit as standard feature),- casing for indoor installation.
n Conformity with the EC European directives- ‘‘LOW VOLTAGE’’ directive (LVD),- Machines 98 / 37 EEC- Electromagnetic EMC 89 / 336 EEC- Pressure vessels PED 97 / 23 EEC category 2 (LG-LGP-ILG) PED is not applicable (LGN) unit not complete
n Conforms to standards- EN 60-204 and EN 378-2

MiniMUM Water pipes volUMeThe Connect controller is equipped with an anticipation logic allowing high flexibility in adjusting the set points according to the parameters drifting, in particular for low water volume hydraulic installations. An adapted management of the compressors operating periods avoids therefore the start of anti-short cycle functions, and in most cases, the requirement of a buffer tank. The calculation of the minimum water volume is given for EUROVENT rated conditions, in cooling mode only. This value is applicable for most air conditioning applications (assembly with fan coil units)Note: for installations running with a low volume of water (assembly with air handling unit) or for industrial processes, the buffer tank is a required component. For heat pump applications, we recommend the use of a buffer tank to ensure a stable temperature is maintained during the defrosting cycles.NOTES:Industrial processes which require a high stability of water temperatures or installations with high thermal load variation can privilege the installation of a water buffer tank.

Installation recommendations
n Instructions for water quality criteriaWARNING: A water filter (800 microns) must be mounted on the unit inlet by the installer.
Correct and specified operation along with the assurance of reasonable life expectancy from the chiller-heater is significantly
dependent on the water circuits, especially if the water quality is allowed to cause scaling, corrosion, the formation of algae
or the growth of micro-organisms.
The water quality must be thoroughly analyzed to ensure that it is suitable for use on the machine, and to establish that
chemical treatment will be sufficient to maintain water quality at acceptable levels and if it will be necessary to install a softening/
demineralisation process.
This water analysis must establish the compatibility of the water used on the site with the following schedule of the
different materials existing on the CIAT machine :
- copper tubes 99.9% brazed with copper and silver filler,
- depending on models, bronze threaded connexions or steal flange couplings,
- exchangers with plates and connexions in stainless steal AISI 316 - 1.4401 brazed with copper and silver filler.
Caution : if these instructions are not respected the warranty of the chiller will be voided.
n Lifting and handling operationsWork with the best safety conditions for people during the lifting and handling operations.
Follow the lifting instructions provided on the machine and the Installation, Operating, Commissioning and Maintenance
instructions manual to the letter.
Plan properly to ensure an accessible route to the place of installation before moving the machine.
Always lift the unit vertically, under no circumstances must the machine be bent or put in a horizontal position.
n Location of the machineDYNACIAT units are designed to be positioned indoor in a technical plant.
Frost protection must be foreseen.
Great attention must be paid to leaving necessary space for maintenance access to the unit, including at the top.
The machine has to be mounted on a level, non combustible flat and horizontal floor with a foundation capable of supporting
the operation weight.
Counter measures against the noise level of the auxiliaries, such as pumps, are recommended.
Before installation, prevent, with the help of a sound specialist, the different possible sources of noise transmission, depending
on the machine room and its design.
It is NECESSARY to fit the pipework with rubber expansion joints (optional equipment).
n Venting of technical plantIn accordance with the regulations on the installation site, a fresh air supply system may be installed to avoid dangerous
situations or loss of comfort in the case of refrigerant leakage from the circuit of the machine.
n Installation of the accessoriesSeveral optional accessories can be delivered separately, to be mounted on the machine on site.
Follow the instructions of the Installation, Operating, Commissioning and Maintenance manual to the letter.
n Field electrical wiringFollow the Installation, Operating, Commissioning and Maintenance instructions manual to the letter.
All necessary instructions for electrical connections are detailed on the wiring diagrams attached to the unit.
(They must be followed strictly)
Connections must conform to good engineering practices and to norms and regulations in force.
Field electrical wiring on site:
. main electric power supply,
. remote control of the machine (if necessary)
. free contacts informations (optional).
It is important to note that the unit is not protected against lightning transients on the electrical supply.
Accordingly, the installation must be fitted with apparatus to give adequate transient protection, and such devices must be
incorporated in the field power electric box.

n Piping connections:Follow absolutely the Installation, Operating, Commissioning and Maintenance instructions manual to the letter. All piping shall be properly aligned and graded to a drain valve to permit complete drainage of the system. All pipes must be installed and connected to the machine ensuring that complete access for service is provided to all panels, then covered with a thermal insulation.Adequately support and brace the piping independently of the unit to avoid vibrations and strain on the piping connections.
Isolating valves and manual valves for water flow adjustment must also be installed.- Field water connections required on site :. water supply of the pipes installation check-pressure reducing valve,. evaporator, condenser and water drain,- Provide the accessories necessary for all hydraulic circuits, for example :. a cooling water flow control valve, thermostatic type, mounted on the inlet side or outlet side of the condenser,. water expansion tank,. drain valves on pipes low points to extract all the water,. exchangers stop valves and water filter,. air purge valves on pipes top points,. check that there is a sufficient water volume in the installation (if necessary provide a storage tank),. rubber expansion joints on the exchangers inlet and outlet water side.. thermowells at each inlet and outlet connection for measurement during commissioning and maintenance procedure.Caution :- Water circuit pressure do not exceed 4.0 bar,- Expansion tank mounted before water pump,- Do not install any valve on the expansion tank.- Be sure to install the water circulating pumps immediately on the exchangers water inlet side.- Be sure that the water pressure at the suction of each circulating pump is equal or higher than the minimum pressure NPSH required, particularly in case of an «open» type circuit.- Referring to the technical conditions, the water quality criteria must be analyzed.- The frozen protection of the unit and the hydraulic piping is necessary, as is the possibility of a water drain of the circuit. In case of use of glycol for protection against freezing, it is absolutely necessary to check the physical properties and concentration before commissioning.- Before making final connection to the chiller-heater, the piping must be flushed with clean water to remove debris in the circuit.
n Start upThe commissioning of DynaCiat machines must be made by CIAT or by a CIAT approved company.Follow the Installation, Operating, Commissioning and Maintenance instructions manual to the letter.Non exhaustive list of operations to be carried out during commissioning:- Check the correct location of the machine- Check the electrical supply protection. Check the phases and correct rotation direction- Check the electrical connections on the unit- Check the correct direction of water circulation on the unit- Check cleanliness of the water circuit- Adjust water flow to the specified value- Check the refrigeration circuit pressures- Check the correct direction of rotation of compressors- Check the water pressure drop and water flow- Complete running parameters check list
n Maintenance operationsThe machine requires specific routine maintenance operations which must be provided by authorized service agents agreed by CIAT.A report of the running parameters must be completed on a special «CHECK LIST» form which may be sent to CIAT.For this operation, refer to and follow the instructions of the Installation, Operating, Commissioning and Maintenance instructions manual to the letter. It is necessary to take out a maintenance contract of the unit with a specialist of refrigerating machines agreed by CIAT, including the period of warranty.
Dynaciat lgn series
n Refrigeration connections- Follow the installation, Operating, Commissioning and Maintenance instructions manual to the letter.- The pipes must be in refrigerant quality copper and follow the state of the art.- As these units have been designed for connection to a removed condenser not supplied by CIAT, neither refrigerant connections nor commissioning will be carried out.- The pipe runs should be designed carefully and the requirements taken into consideration to facilitate the oil return to the compressor and pressure drops which can impair the performances.
