Register a new business online in the District of Columbia with the Office of Tax Revenue’s new tax portal,
MyTax.DC.gov.
1. Click Register a New Business – Form FR-500 on the MyTax.DC.gov homepage.

2. The Instructions page contains all the items needed to complete your business registration:
Federal Employer Identification Number and/or Social Security Number
Legal form of business
Primary business address and the addresses for all locations where you will collect sales tax in the
District of Columbia
Names, titles, home address, and Social Security number of the proprietor, partners, or principal
officers and
Former Entity Information if previously registered with the District
a. Click Next.

3. Complete the Preliminary Questions section.
a. From the drop-down menu, select your Business Type (e.g. Corporation, Limited Liability
Company).
b. Answer No or Yes to the questions.
c. Click Next.

4. Complete the General Business Information section.
a. From the drop-down menu, select either Federal Employer ID, ITIN, or Security Number and enter
that number in the space provided.
b. Click the Lookup NAICS button to find the NAICS code associated with your business.
c. Complete the requested information – Business Name, Trade Name (if applicable), and Business
Address.
d. Click Validate to validate your address.
e. From the drop-down menu select a Phone Type. You will be prompted to enter your phone
number.
f. Complete the requested information – Business Email, Website Address (if applicable). Enter the
date your present business commenced in DC or date expected to begin.
g. Click Next.

5. The Officers section is where you would add all authorized officers (e.g. CEO, Partner) of your business.
This section is required and must be completed before proceeding to the next page.
a. To add an officer click New/Edit Officer.
b. Click Next.

6. Complete the Business Tax Registration section.
a. The Business Type will automatically default to the selection you made at the start of the
application. Answer No or Yes to the questions.
b. Enter the date on which your taxable year ends.
c. In the space provided, describe all your current or expected business activities and/or major type of
services performed within DC.
d. Click Next.

7. Complete the Sales & Use Tax Registration section.
a. Click the Add/Edit Locations button to enter all DC locations that collect sales tax.

8. Complete the Misc Tax Registration section. a. Answer No or Yes to the questions. b. Click Next.

9. Complete the Personal Property Tax Registration page.
a. In the space provided, describe the type of personal property used for business purposes.
b. Enter the date when you began or expect to begin using such property for your business.
c. Click Next.

10. The Verify and Submit page allows you one last opportunity to review your business tax registration
application prior to submitting your application to the Office of Tax and Revenue. Once you submit
your application, you will not be able to revise your information online.
a. Once your application is complete and accurate, click Submit.

11. In the Ready to submit this request? pop-up, enter your Email address and re-enter it into the
Confirm Email field.
Note: If your pop-up window doesn’t display, please check your settings.
12. A Confirmation page displays. To obtain a printed copy of this page, click Printable View.
Otherwise, click OK to be returned to the MyTax.DC.gov homepage.
