Notes are named after the seven letters in the alphabets:A, B, C, D, E, F, G.
Between each note, we have a sharp(#)/flat(b) note, except B – C, and E – F.
Thus, in the occidental music, we have twelve notes:A – Bb – B – C – C# – D – D# – E – F – F# – G – G#.
The “ Do, Ré, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Si ” nomenclature was actually extracted by Guido of Arezzo (995 – 1050), from the first paragraph of the Latin hymn written for St. Jean - Baptist, by Paul Diacre (Paulus the Deacon)

- Subsequently, the “Si” was added to the hexachord “ Do, Ré, Mi, Fa, Sol, La ” to form what we call: “Octave”… (Oct=eight)
- The note “Ut” was renamed “Do” by the Italian musician Dominus Bonocini.
- Nowadays, the “Ut” is still in use for the Alto & Tenor Keys and tonalities.
