In the Britten centenary year we mix and match pieceswritten between 1930-1950 by Britten and some of hiscomposer friends. In their original form the Old AmericanSongs were given their world première by Britten andPears. Poulenc's influence generated a whole sequenceof French-inspired music and and Lennox Berkeleyshared a house with Britten in the 30s, eventuallycollaborating on an orchestral suite. The four choralworks by Britten will be interspersed with organ solos.
We are very pleased to have been given a Britten Awardby the Trustees of the Britten-Pears Foundation inrelation to the programming of this concert.
