The Birth of Muscle•1949 Oldsmobile Rocket 88•Had 135 hp•Created because of the demand for faster cars•Used in NASCAR
Growth in Popularity•Oldsmobile inspired other auto makers to make faster cars•Became a competition to see who could make the fastest car
Youth Popularity•Popular among the youth because of low prices and they were fast•Cars could cost as low as $3,000•Competition to see who could have the fastest car
End of Muscle Car Era•Insurance prices became expensive•Government concerned about pollution and lack of safety•Demand for fuel increased
Muscle Car Revival•80’s brought back the demand for fast cars•Difficult to make faster due to rules by government•Technology improved and so did the cars
