MSSGrantsforResearchAvailablein2018TheMSSScholarshipDevelopmentCommitteeoffersresearchgrantsupto$2,500.Weseektofundhighimpactproposals.Suchproposalscouldbe:

• Earlystageresearch.Suchresearchcouldconsistofthedatacollectionforanewprojectorapilotorpreliminarystudythatcouldleadtorefiningaresearchdesign/conceptualization.

• Completionofanongoingproject.Fundingforsuchresearchwouldacceleratethetimetocompletionforaprojectalreadyinprocess.

• Leverageforotherresources.Suchresearchwouldclearlymakeotheravailableresourcesmoreproductive.Inmakingfundingdecisions,thecommitteewillprioritizeefficientuseofresourcesthatdirectlycontributetotheproposedresearch.

ResearchproposalsshouldspecifyhowfundingfromtheMSSScholarshipDevelopmentCommitteewillmakeasignificantimpactontheresearchprojectbyidentifyingalignmentwithoneoftheabovegoals.TheprincipalapplicantmustsubmitareportoftheoutcomeoftheresearchtotheScholarshipDevelopmentCommittee.Additionally,grantrecipientsareexpectedtopresentfindingsatthesubsequentyear’sMSSAnnualMeeting.APPLICATIONPROCESSGrantapplicationswillbeacceptedONLYbetweenJan.15,2018,andFeb.15,2018.ReferencesshouldfollowtheASAstyleguide.Acompleteapplicationincludes:

• Acoverpageincludingidentificationofaprincipalinvestigator,amailingaddress,andastatementofintentiontoattendtheMSSAnnualMeetingthefollowingyeartopresentresearchfindings.WedonotfundtraveltotheMSSconferencetopresentyourresults;suchexpenses,therefore,shouldnotbeintheproposal’sbudget.

• Aproposalthat,inamaximumof1,200words,provides:o Astatementoftheresearchproblem;o Atheoreticalframework;o Asummaryofmethodologyanddesign;ando Anitemizedbudgetwithabudgetjustification.Applicantsshouldclearlystatewhattypesof

supplementalmaterialstheyneedfundedinordertocarryouttheirresearch.Thus,thecommitteeneedstoknowtheentirefundingneedsoftheprojectsothatthecommitteecandeterminewhethertheresearchislikelytobesuccessfullycarriedoutintheone-yeartimeperiodallotted.Also,theapplicantmustlistallotherfundingawards,pendinggrants,and/oranymoniesappliedforinrelationtotheirsubmittedproposal.

• Alistofworkscited.• ProofofIRBapprovaloracompletedIRBsubmissionifhumansubjects’researchispartoftheproject.

• Aletterapprovingyouraccesstoanyagency/organization/researchfacility/databankrequiredforyourproject.
