MR.ALEJANDROALEMÁNProfessorofPracticeMr.Alemánbringsover15yearsofLatinAmericanregionalexpertiseandworkexperience to the Perry Center as a Professor of Practice and the CentralAmerican Project Lead for the Defense Institution Reform Initiative. In thiscapacityhesupportstheOSD-ledSecurityandDefenseInstitutionBuildingeffort,workingwith localministriesofdefense indefenseandsecurity sector reforminitiatives.HepreviouslyservedthreedifferentcommandersasaForeignPolicyAdvisoron

Latin America, ensuring the command’s activities were informed by US foreign policy objectives andembassygoalsineachcountry.Later,duringhisnearlyfouryearsontheJointStaff,heledandworkedwitha team of peers in formulating expert policy advice for the Chairman, providing his input duringWhiteHousepolicymeetingsonLatinAmerica.HepersonallyparticipatedastheJointStaffrepresentativeintheWhiteHousediscussionsaddressinga changingCubapolicy, the transformationofourVenezuelapolicy,andseveralotherissuesimpactingtheLatinAmericanregionincludingdefenseassistancereform,regionalstrategies,andtrans-nationalthreats.Mr.Alemánhastraveledwidelythroughouttheregionworkingwithlocalmilitariesonstrategicplanningandintelligenceoperations.Healsohasexperienceinlegislativeaffairs,analysis,andstrategicplanning.Mr.AlemánhasaBAinMathematicsfromCornellUniversity,anMAinInternationalAffairsfromColumbiaUniversity,andisaretiredUSAFColonelwith25yearsofservice.
