On beha lf of t he Tow n Council and myself, we want to welcome you to the 2015 Moxie festival.

We are delighted to have you here to help us “Celebrate Moxie the Maine Way.” We promise there will be something fun for everyone. – Diane Barnes, Lisbon Town Manager

The fest iva l com m ittee’s work continues throughout the year to bring you this festival. People visit from all over the country to witness where “Moxie” is celebrated during the three-day annual event. The festival is an opportunity for those to reunite and gather with fellow classmates, f r iends a nd fa mily members and reflect on the history of growing up in Lisbon and drinking Moxie.

T h i s yea r ’s fe st iv a l t heme i s “Celebrate Moxie the Maine Way” wh ich you w i l l see d isplayed throughout Maine’s largest parade as well as our downtown businesses. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11. Dottie Brown who just turned 100 in April is slated to be the Grand Marshal in this year’s parade. Dottie wil l be riding a tandem bike with the Pastor William Bailey of the Lisbon Falls Church of the Nazarene.

With the construction of the new high school gymnasium and safety concerns, committee members decided to relocate Friday night activities to the area in front of the Lisbon Public Works facility located off of Capital Avenue/Rt. 196. The Moxie Festival Block Party wil l begin at 4:00 p.m. with the talented dancers from Alma Lea’s Dance Studio and from 6:30 to 10 p.m. come

listen to dance music provided by DJ-BrianC, along with the Touch-A-Truck, and Fireworks. The Lisbon High School tennis court area will be a great spot to view the fireworks.

This year we wanted to extend t he ac t iv it ies t h roug hout t he downtown area to allow better f low of pedestrian traffic. Our downtown merchants are planning to decorate their windows to promote the spirit of the festival, so please stop in. Saturday’s events will be along Main Street as well as the MTM Recreation Center. Let’s not forget The Moxie Fe st iv a l C onc er t i n t he Pa rk featuring the band “Bon Jersey…the #1 Bon Jovi tribute band” will perform from 6-8 p.m.

“Also new this year are ATM’s, so if you don’t have cash, no worries. We’ve got it covered.”

Due to staffing, the Androscoggin Land Trust is unable to coordinate t h e a n n u a l C h i e f Wo r u m b o Androscoggin River Race for 2015. However, we are work ing on a partnership to bring the race back in 2016.

Because we are not able to have the river race for Sunday, July 12, the committee has planned Moxie Festival Family Day at Beaver Park. Activities begin at 10 a.m. at the park which is located off Cotton Road and runs through 3 p.m. Free admission to the park, bring a picnic lunch (BBQ grill and picnic tables available), take a walk through the seven miles of hiking trails and explore, swimming (no l ifeguard on duty), f ishing, recreational games and activities for the whole family, join the Primal Fitness Class for a workout at 10 a.m.; 11 – 3 p.m. WolfPack Fitness Interactive demos, and from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. try Geocaching Scavenger Hunt w ith L.L. Bean’s Outdoor Discover y Schools (free activity and all equipment provided by L.L. Bean’s Discovery Schools)

T h is is on ly a sa mple of t he festivities. For a complete schedule of events, check the insert guide or visit our website at MoxieFestival.com.

As you can see there will be plenty of activities and Moxie FUN for ALL AGES. On behalf of the 2015 Moxie Festival Committee, we thank you and hope you enjoy yourselves participating in all Lisbon has to offer!

From left, winner Hannah Stritch’s father and step-mother Richard and Betsy Stritch, Hannah, and grandparents Arlene and Morrill Nason.

“Celebrate Moxie the Maine Way,” is the 2015 winning theme. Robin (Rogers) Arsenault, a 4th generation Mainer who grew up in Lisbon, won the annual theme contest that drew contes-tants from across the country.

Lisbon High School Senior Hannah Stritch received $100 and the first 2015 Moxie Festival t-shirt with her winning Moxie Festival logo.

2015 Moxie Festival t-shirts are available throughout the festival weekend.

Moxie Festival history in briefAccording to Lisbon Public Safety Officials, an estimated 50,000 people attend the tree-day Moxie Festival which will take place July 10-12, 2015. The town of Lisbon has approxi-mately 9,000 residents.

Since 1982, The Moxie Festival in Lisbon, Maine has been held on the second weekend in July.

The Festival now includes a Friday night Block Party with fireworks; a Saturday parade, Moxie Day 5K Race, Moxie Recipe Contest, Chug-n-Challenge, Moxie Concert in the Park, Petting Zoo and Pony Rides and plenty of vendors for something for the whole family; and on Sunday, Family Fun Day at Beaver Park, Moxie Car Show and much more!

Moxie was designated Maine’s official soft drink on May 20, 2005.

Moxie recipe contest is changing things up

Can you bake a cake with Moxie? Make a mustard or barbe-cue sauce? What about Moxie meatballs with Moxie au jus? The answers to those important Moxie questions would be a resounding yes, yes, and yes!

The Moxie Recipe Contest will take place on Saturday this year, July 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the MTM Center Gym, 18 School Street, Lisbon Falls. It will be one of many highlights making up arguably one of New England’s most intriguing summer festi-vals. More than 70,000 visitors regularly descend on the central Maine town of Lisbon for the annual three-day festival, celebrat-ing all things Moxie.

Like everything related to the festival, the recipe contest gets bigger and better every year. Last year, 30 contestants entered and the local eatery, Chummy’s, was bursting at the seams with the gathered foodies, hard-core fans of Moxie, and curious (and hungry) on-lookers.

“Chummy’s was a great venue for us the past few years, but frankly, we’ve outgrown the space,” said Julie-Ann Baumer, the Moxie Recipe Contest coordinator, and hostess of the annual event.

Baumer is really excited about the new location, a former ele-mentary school that she attended growing up in the town. Now converted to a community center, the MTM Center has a good-

“Although I’m going to miss Ben and his cool retro horse-shoe-shaped dining bar, this

of the two categories—savory a nd sweet— a nd possibly win cash prizes! Or you can eat! For a $10 admission fee, you can sample and judge each entry and help select the winners.
