The record mentions, ' the gift for the welfare
and happiness of all beings, of an image of a
Bodhisattva by the Mahadandanayka
Eghatta, on the 6th day of the 3rd month of the
rainy season in the year 46 at the vihara at ,
Mathura' . The record is interesting
as it is the only biscriptual record from Mathura. The donor seems to be a NorthWesterner, who was
appointed as a military officer by the Kushana kina Huvishka (known b
years 25-60) in the Mathura region. He
donated the image and asked the scribe to
record the gift in two scri£ts.
The inscription reads, 'an ornamental arch for the temple, the gift of
the lay hearer Utaradasaka, son of Vachhi, disciple of
ascetic Maharakhita'. The inscription reads, 'Adoration to Arhat
