●●●● About surge caused by motors
1 What is surge? Turning on or off the power of electric devices nearly always cause
instantaneous surge ( a high voltage noise ) to be generated.
When such an electric device contains a coil ( winding ), in partucular,
a considerably large surge may be generated.
A motor roller contains a winding that will cause a surge.
2 When a surge is generated A surge may propagate through a power distribution line and could
cause damage to or malfunction of electronic components.
3 When the motor is turned on and off with
high frequency ( in intervals of a few seconds ) A surge is generated each time when the motor is turned on or
off. The surge is genetated in the motor winding, which means that
the winding is exposed to a high voltage of a few thousand and the
insulation of the winding suffers damage.
As a result, a breakdown and layer short-circuit fault may occur.
●●●● Surge Protection
A. Use a contactless relay ( SSR ) ⇒ If the motor is turned on/off with a contact relay ( magnet switch, toggle switch,or
the like ), a surge is generated. It is therefore best to use a contactless relay.
B.B.B.B.Use a surge absorber ⇒ A surge absorber is generally called as an arc killer or surge killer, and is used
when contact is performed with a contact relay.
CR method
This is a combination of capacitor and resistor.
C method
Capacitor is used.
