Getting Started

• Enter the Schools Registry!• You will receive a recognition certificate, School Tennis

Handbook and a USTA/Schools Clipboard all at no cost• www.usta.com/schools

• Become a USTA School Organization member• $35 gets your school a 1 year membership as well as a

curriculum kit, a laminated set of station signs and equipment and Skillastics discounts• Org members are also eligible for USTA grants

How can the USTA help you . . . 1. Training

– Free school teacher in-services (3 hours)• Comprehensive hands on training showing how to implement

tennis in a PE curriculum, student management techniques, station teaching, Tennis Skillastics and extra curricular play

• Suitable for any location (i.e. gym, cafeteria, blacktop)• In order to host an in-service, school must commit to 3 year

organization membership ($100)• Host schools receive a $1000 equipment package and Tennis

Skillastics (must have 12 teachers)

How can the USTA help you…

2. New curriculum materials– Developed by USTA with Dr. Robert Pangrazi – Written by Physical Educators for Physical Educators– Based on National Association for Sport and Physical Education

standards– Features 8 progressive easy-to-implement lessons – Versatile and flexible curriculum can be taught in any school – Curriculum package contains a complete teaching manual,

instructional DVD, quick-reference pocket guide, and a CD of animated signs for activity stations and skill drills.

How can the USTA help you . . . 3. Equipment support

– Discounts are available to school districts and after school providers

– Equipment is age appropriate, easy to use, and ensures a positive first time experience for all students learning tennis for the first time

4. Technical Expertise– Program start-up– Play formats– Court layout specs – lining a school yard for modified courts

(Quickstart Tennis)– Site visits/consulting

Mini-Mountaineer After School Tennis •8 week programs•Kids receive a racquet, t-shirt and foam ball as part of their registration•All instructors proficient in the 10 and Under Tennis format•Current programs are being held at Warm Springs Intermediate School, Park Middle School, Wright Denny Intermediate School, and Eastern Greenbrier Middle School

Jr. Team Tennis•Co-ed recreational tennis leagues for kids ages 6-18•Matches include boys and girls singles, boys and girls doubles and mixed doubles•Opportunities to advance to District, Section and Nationals Championships•Combination of practice and match play with an emphasis on skill development, fun, teamwork and friendly competition
