Sport News
Congratulations to our amazing students who have trialled for Soccer and Rugby Union this week.
Harvey T and Avesta A were successful in gaining a position in the combined zones soccer squad trialling at the Sydney North Soccer trial in the coming weeks.
Jack P, Beau M, Baxter W, Will M, Cody G and Phoenix D all gained a spot in the Pittwater Zone Rugby Union squad who will trial for the Sydney North Union team.
A huge achievement from all the boys in two very competitive trials. Both Mr Casey from Narrabeen Lakes and Mr Rosconi from Elanora were very impressed with the calibre of talent in both trials.
Congratulations and good luck in your next trial.
We are very proud of you!

School News
Junior Eco-Warriors UpdateThis year, students in Year 1 and Year 2 have become Junior Eco-Warriors! These boys and girls have been extremely enthusiastic about their vegetable garden and having a clean playground. The Junior Eco-Warriors have just had their first harvest; six heads of lettuce! They have done a great job and can’t wait to grow some more fresh vegetables for the canteen. Our lettuce will be in all the salads and on the chicken burgers this week in the canteen!
Cross CountryAt the start of the term, Mona Vale students ran their cross-country race. We had many students across Years 2 to 6 qualify to compete at the Pittwater Zone Cross Country Carnival on Friday 19th May 2017. These boys and girls have been training hard for this event and have been having a lot of fun in the process. Good luck for next week, runners! You’ve all done a fabulous job! Run hard and have fun!

Public Speaking
2017 Multicultural Perspectives - Public Speaking Competition- Stage 2 and 3
Mona Vale is entering this fabulous competition once again in order to heighten awareness of multicultural issues among our students while developing their interest and skills in public speaking, as well as their confidence.
This year, students will be learning how to structure a speech in school, so they will not be required to write their speech for homework. However, there are several ways you can help your child to make this a meaningful learning experience:
*discuss current multicultural issues*research the multicultural history of your family*select and prepare a multicultural meal together*look through the local paper for events with multicultural elements such as food festivals, musical entertainment, etc.
In mid-June, each class will select two finalists to deliver their speech in the hall to their stage. These finalists will bring their speeches home to practise with you. Then two students will be chosen from Stage 2 and Stage 3 to showcase their public speaking skills and share ideas with other students at our area finals.

Canteen News
Thanks to all those Mums who helped out on Monday this week after volunteering on the Mother’s day stall – greatly appreciated – Elaine and Rochelle and Amanda.
Also thanks to Terry who came to volunteer in the canteen after having finished his night shift at 2am – massive effort.
FRIDAY lunch ordersLast Friday 42 PSSA children came to the canteen for their lunch orders.
Please do not order lunches on a FRIDAY if your child is in a PSSA team. We just cannot manage to select individual orders 30 minutes earlier than lunches will be ready to children wanting to dash off to catch the team bus. Friday is our busiest day in the canteen with nearly 300 orders.
The canteen would really appreciate your support in this.
Forgotten LunchesPlease double check you have placed your flexischool order correctly as I have many children coming to the canteen already this term thinking they have a flexischool order when they don’t.
Any problems placing your order please contact flexischools on 1300 361 769.
Happy Mother’s Day to all Mums on Sunday. Hope you enjoy your day.

If you have lost your child’s school name tag from their bag and need to replace it. We have them available to purchase in the uniform shop for $2.00.
We are running low on grey plastic shopping bags in the shop, if anyone has any at home and could bring them in, that would be most appreciated.
Term 2 we are also using the Volunteer Portal for parent helpers. Volunteers are always needed, even if you can spare a couple of hours once or twice a month. If you are able to volunteer in the shop, please go to website www.carebookings.com.au.
Enter event code: B7MJN in the green box.
Profits made during the year in the uniform shop are given back to the P&C to support initiatives.

IN THE SCHOOL HALL
ALL WELCOME
Hi Everyone, This week is National Volunteers Week so I want to say a very big thank you to all of our amazing volunteers that help out the P&C Committees, assist in the classroom, run scripture / ethics classes etc. You make a big difference to this school and its very much appreciated. I’d also like to encourage anyone who has been thinking about helping to dip their toe in and get involved. It makes a huge difference and your child will forever have fond memories of this. While we’re talking about volunteers, our Social and Events committee would dearly love some more eager helpers willing to learn the ropes. If you are interested, please feel free to contact me to have a chat and find out what it’s all about. Carparking and the safety of our children continues to be an issue around the school. We’ve had regular Police patrols around drop off and pick up times recently and a number of parents have been booked. Please remember, whilst your children are safe in the car with you, someone else’s child is trying to cross the road. Please obey the road rules and drive sensibly. U-turns are illegal and turning around in someone’s driveway is discouraged during school zone hours. You’ll notice some further signage around the school in the coming weeks, the Northern Beaches Council and the PCS schools are working together to make this a priority. A reminder that our class parents will be meeting on Monday 15th May at 9am, and our next P and C meeting is Wednesday 17th May at 9am and will include a presentation from Mrs Erin Comino on reading. Erin is a fantastic presenter and wealth of knowledge around learning. She heads up the very successful Reading Recovery program in the school, as well as having a vast amount of experience working with children with any learning needs (including pushing the really bright ones along). It will definitely be worth attending if you are a parent of children from ANY grade, not just those learning to read. Look forward to seeing some more new faces there. Children very welcome and we’ll have some activities setup to keep them occupied. Thanks Conor Weule [email protected]
