EXALTED RULER MESSAGE
When I traveled to Albany, NY for the Spring Convention, I was pretty impressed by the NYS Elks Association. When I went to Austin, TX for the Grand Lodge Convention, I gained a greater appreciation for being a member of this fine Ameri-can organization. Jimmy Vignola and I traveled over a thou-sand miles away to represent our Lodge on a national level. In no way whatsoever was it a chore; it was an abso-lute honor to be an Elk and to be from Yorktown Lodge #2324.
I met Elks from across the country - from California, to Wis-consin, to the great state of Texas. I had one of the best times of my life! I've realized that the heart and soul of this country and organization doesn't only come from large cities like Chicago and Los Angeles, it comes from small towns that exist in Utah, Arizona, Missouri, the Dakotas, the deep South, and last but certainly not least, New York State.
I'm proud to be an American! Honor the Flag!
Respectfully, Exalted Ruler Paul Egan
ITEMS OF NOTE FROM OUR ER
Mary Blackadder and I attended the homecoming of our out-going District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler, Al Shrock on July 14th at the Beacon Lodge. Delicious food was cooked and served by the Beacon Elks. Congratulations to PDDGER Al Shrock for his hard work and dedication over the past year!
AND FROM RICH DE SILVA
We have an opportunity to have an impact on the lives of children who need help at a Hospital. There is a program at the Hudson Valley Hospital and the Helen Hayes Hospital which provides free help to children in exchange for bottle caps and can tabs. We don’t have details but we recently turned in a bag full to Peekskill Lodge and they were happy for it. Please join us in this effort by saving them and bringing them to the Lodge in a container marked for Rich or Mary De Silva; they will coordinate the handling of these for our Lodge.

OUR BUSY BEAVERS
Our Thanks goes to Joe (Tel) Cacciola for fixing the Lodge's telephones when Verizon could not quite figure what was wrong; he saved the Lodge $300. Thanks also to Mike Adamovich for his dona-tion to the bar. Our Thanks go to all the members who attended the State President’s lunch and espe-cially to Mary Blackadder for all her hard work in getting the lunch together. A special thanks goes to Angelo Salzillo for his donation of the beautiful grill which is now being used for our periodic Friday Night Barbeques, and which is being run by him, Danny LoPresti and Bobby Kramer. Good Job Guys ! Our Thanks go to Bobby Kramer, who ran a Yankee Stadium visit. The 48 attendees were treated to a bus ride in coach, plenty of food and beverages, and they saw the Yankees beat the Cleveland In-dians. All had a great time and said they look forward to the next trip….great job Bobby !

Yorktown Leos Select Matt Arruda As Citizen Of the Year
It was a busy time before our meeting in August when we were visited by the Yorktown Lions, and their youth group, the Yorktown Leos. Our Lodge formally presented our Citizen Of The Year plaque to Al Avitible of the Li-ons Organization (see pg 7), while in the meantime, their Youth group used the occasion to honor our own Matt Arruda as their Citizen Of The Year. Congratulations Matt, on a well deserved award for your service Pictured are Matt (l) and Leo’s President Joe Cirone (r).
