Messer Construction Co. is one of the region’s largest commercial construction industry leaders.The goal of Messer’s cooperative education/internship program is to provide an environment inwhich a student can experience the following:

• Assist Messer in the management of the construction process• Relate curriculum with real on-the-job applications• Explore and reaffirm their career responsibility• Earn wages commensurate with responsibility• Evaluate their respective future employment opportunities

Messer’s Co-Ops/Interns have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of responsibilities in anumber of different positions on our project sites and in our corporate offices. These positionsrequire the development of high levels of effective oral and written communication skills, problemsolving skills and organization skills.

Civil Engineering and Construction Management co-ops/interns may assist with the followingat the project site:

• Building layout (surveying)• Process submittals• Material and equipment expediting• Subcontractor and workforce coordination• Monitoring safety and/or quality• Project controls• Other project engineering related tasks

Civil Engineering and Construction Management co-ops/interns may assist with the following inour corporate office:

• Cost planning and estimating• Contacting bidders• Quantity surveying• Securing bids• Scheduling• Subcontractor pre-qualification• CMiC implementation - enterprise wide software solution• The Center of Excellence - intellectual knowledge warehouse• Other office engineering related tasks

Mechanical Engineering co-ops/interns may assist with the following at the project site:

• Processing of product shop drawings• Quality assurance programs• Cost estimates• Administrative reporting• Commissioning and troubleshooting of M.E.P. systems

The desired end result of the co-op/internship experience is a student who is more well-rounded,more experienced and more confident in applying their experience and education in the workplace.
