• From P5, pupils will take subjects at either
levels:
– Standard
– Foundation
• Foundation subjects
– A form of SUPPORT – increase confidence
levels
– Allow pupils to focus on strengths and work on
weaker subjects at an appropriate pace

What is Subject-based Banding?
Introduced to ensure that your child’s
interests and strengths are taken into
consideration
To recognise the different abilities of pupils
and give them greater flexibility to
concentrate on the subjects they are good at
To help your child build up the fundamentals
in the subjects that he/she needs more time
to work on

How does Subject-based Banding work?
Based on pupil’s results, school recommends a
subject combination
Parents fill up option form indicating the
preferred subject combination
At P4 : Pupil sits for school-based examinations
English, Math, Science and Mother Tongue are
available at standard and foundation levels
Mother Tongue is also available at the higher
levels (Higher Mother Tongue)
At P5 : Pupil takes subject combination chosen
by parents
