1. PURPOSE OF THE DOCUMENT
The purpose of the document is the material selection and the materials
supply technical requirements for the main structural components of the
propane tank of Mahshahr Loading Facilities.

5. MATERIAL SELECTION
Materials used in the construction of this tank shall be in accordance with
Section 4 and App. “R” of API Std. 620.
The materials shall comply with the specifications listed in API Std. 620.
The selection of materials is based on the design metal temperature and on
the type of components (primary, secondary, basic).
Primary components include inner tank parts: shell plates, bottom plates,
shell reinforcement, shell manways and nozzles, piping forging and
bolting, roof nozzle in contact with the refrigerated liquid.
Basic and secondary components include outer tank parts: shell, bottom,
roof plates and structural parts above internally insulated suspended deck.
For a refrigerated tank, the materials for primary components shall
comply with the requirements of Tables R-1 and R-2.
All primary components shall be impact tested in accordance with API
620 Std. Sect R.2.1.2 trough R 2.1.4. Impact testing shall be carried
out for each shell plate, bottom plate and for each plate from which
annular plates are cut.

From the suitable materials for plates with the design temperature
of -50oC:
ASTM A 203 Gr. A,B (2 ½ Ni)
ASTM A 537 Cl.1 + S5 (Normalized, Carbon steel)
ASTM A 537 Cl.2 + S5 (Quenched and tempered, Carbon steel)
is selected, for primary components, the material ASTM A 203 Gr.B.
Plates shall be used in the construction of tank under the conditions
described in API Std. 620, App. B.
For primary components of feritic materials, the following requirements
shall be meet:
-All steels shall be fully killed;
-All steels shall be supplied from the mill in the normalized or quenched
and tempered condition, as applicable;
-All steels shall be fine – grained.
Materials for basic and secondary components shall comply with API
620 – Sect R 2.2.1., R 2.2.2 and Table R-3, Table 4-1.
Materials for the suspended deck shall comply with the requirements of
API Std. 620, App. Q.
All attachments welded to shell, bottom and roof shall be of the same
material Specification including impact requirements as the tank materials.
All pipes material shall be seamless.
6. MATERIAL TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
This specification represents the minimum requirements which should be
fulfilled by the tank materials. These prescriptions will be completed with
the requirements indicated in the enclosed documents and in the material
standards.
General requirements for materials:
-All materials must be new and free lamination.

-The materials will be supplied from the steel manufacturer and not from
the steel stock holders. Steel manufacturer will be subject to Client
approval.
-Certificate of material shall be acc. to EN-10204, Type 3.1.
The material certificates shall include result of all tests (either chemical
composition or mechanical tests) which are specified by ASTM material
specifications as well as Project Job Specifications requirements.
-The materials shall not be hard stamped.

-Each plate shall be impact tested;
-Impact test specimens shall be taken transverse to the direction of final
plate rolling;
-The ASTM A 370, Type A, charpy V-noch test shall be used;
