Maya Angelou
Maya Angelou Maya Angelou was born April 4, 1928 in St. Louis,
Missouri. She was the daughter of Bailey and Vivian
Baxter Johnson, but they had a divorce later on. She
was raised in St. Louis and Stamps, Arkansas. Maya
Angelou is her alias. Her actual name is Marguerite
Ann Johnson. Maya isn’t the only child in her family.
She has one brother. Maya Angelou is full African-
American. Maya attended at San Francisco’s Labor
School. Maya was a fan of music, dance, and poetry
during her time at school. At the age of fourteen she
dropped out of high school just to work as a cable car
conductor. She was the very first woman that was a
cable car conductor. Later in her life she finished high
school. After her graduation in high school she had the
greatest gift of all, she gave birth to her baby boy. His
name was Guy Johnson. Maya needed money for
taking care of her child. Eventually she found a job.
For a while in her life she was working as a waitress
and cook, but later in life she pursued her dreams.
Maya Angelou Maya Angelou accomplishment to black history
was that she helped Malcolm X and Martin Luther
King Jr. to make black and white Americans live to
together in harmony. But both of her friends were
assassinated.
