A word from the Principal …

It’s hard to believe it’s the last newsletter for the

term! It’s been a very busy term to date. Here’s some

of the things we have been involved in, in term 1:

● AGM and new Gov. Council elected

● School acquaintance night

● Bike Education

● School photos

● Harmony Day

● Lots of great gatherings!

● Lots of great ‘Powerful Learning’

We still have a few more events to conclude the term including:

Pupil free day- The Big Six of Reading

Walk-a-thon fundraiser- colour run!

3-way interviews next week!

Don’t forget 3 way interviews (teacher, student, parent(s) are being

held next week, Mon-Fri. By now you should have gone online and

booked an interview time with your child’s teacher. These interviews

are a really important part of our reporting process with home, so

hopefully you have taken a minute to book in some times. If not you

can still book in a time but please speak to your teacher.

Upcoming walk-a-thon fundraiser

Our walkathon fundraiser is coming up on Wednesday the 10th of

April. This year we are trying something new in terms of a ‘colour run’,

where the more money a student raises, the better the prizes they

get. Of course the ultimate goal is for us to raise as much money as

possible for our school. We are getting together our student’s/ staff

‘wish list’ of things they would like to put the money raised towards.

In the past some of these things have included: STEM equipment, na-

ture play, ICT equipment, improvements to playground/ bike rack

areas etc. We are aiming to raise a total of $15 000K as a school, so

make sure you and your family and friends get involved with sponsor-

ing your child for the walk-a-thon!

Last day of school is Friday 12th of April. As this is the last day of term,

it is an early dismissal at 2pm. I would like to take this opportunity to

wish all families a great school holiday break. First day back of term 2

is Tuesday 30th of April; Monday 29th is a pupil free day (staff training.)

Harmony Day

Harmony Day was celebrated on Thursday 21st March in week 8. Celebrating Harmony Day is a way of acknowledging the di-versity of people in our school and nation. At Mawson Lakes Primary School we have approximately 45 different cultures represented . Students celebrated their cultural diversity by wearing orange on the day or many students decided to dress up in their own national costume. Many students brought in dolls dressed in national costumes that were shared within the class. Students were also encouraged to bring in a variety of ethnic food which again was shared by all the class and buddy class. It was a fun and exciting day had by all!

Bike Education 2019

As a part of our “Safe routes to schools program” students in W21, W22, W23 and TR9 have been doing Bike ed. They have been learning about how to fit their helmet properly, how to check if their bike is roadworthy, and a little bit about how to best secure their bike. In the last few sessions, students have been riding on the roads around the community and demonstrating what they have learnt about the road rules.

We have learnt that you need to scan, signal and scan back before you want to change direction or make a turn so that the traffic knows what your intentions are. You need to make sure that you are always in your bike lane, and that you stay safe.
