BLVDX BOULEVARD CROSSING PARK

Boulevard Crossing Park is a 22-acre greenspace project located in Atlanta, Georgia along the loop of the Beltline. South of Grant Park at the intersection of Boulevard and Englewood Avenue, the project is a sustainable park redesign featuring natural processes and spaces. The park is to serve as a hub of activity linking numerous trails and corridors, creating nodes of social and environmental engagement within the general p u b l i c .

The Amekwohi Celestial Food Park intends to revive the values and land management techniques used by the Mvscogee Creek Indians while promoting and enabling the human practice of foraging and gathering.

A cultural legacy long lost amongst the current people of the Piedmont Plateau, foraging is a sustainable food practice encouraging people to walk the forests in search of edible plants and fruits.

In order to create a diverse and bountiful park, the forest must be restored to pre-European settlement conditions. The earth must be healed in order to nurse the native species back into ecological dominance.

A real functioning permaculture, visitors will learn about native species propagation through sustainable foraging habits, the different dietary and medicinal properties of plants. Visitors will also learn how the ACFP is restoring the forest through astronomy and alternative agricultural practices. At the restaurant one can

At the buildings center the mathematically precise Tzolkin calendar of the Mayas rotates in alignment with the movement of the sun star through the sky. Powered by solar energy the gear slowly propels the building along the tracks synchronized with the universe.

There is no parking at ACFP. Devoted to being a 100% sustainable park the ACFP has a bus stop, with buses departing from the train station located .5 miles away. This will help facilitate the emergence, growth and popularity of public transportation.

The buildings are reclaimed and recycled containers. All the buildings are nomadic, meaning they rest on tracks and slowly coast along in constant smooth movement. This positive movement prevents the static weight of the building from harming the land. Moving through space and time the nomadic building gives visitors plenty to think about and learn.

eat food foraged on site. The restaurant features a fishpond which cleans and filters harvested rainwater in order to provide sustainable irrigation to the rice paddies terraced behind the restaurant. The rice paddies grow local native rice. By eating locally, dependence on foreign food is reduced and knowledge of the land is increased.

The vibrant character of Southeast Atlanta

continues to grow as new houses and lofts,

mixed-use developments, and refurbished

properties sprout up in older neighborhoods

and alongside established homes. Spur trails

will provide easier access to more places, in-

cluding Grant Park and Zoo Atlanta.

Key Points of Interest:

• Bill Kennedy Way (The Glenwood Connec-

tor) will be a scenic strip along the corridor

where the transit and trial flow along the

same street as cars.

• Southside High and the New Schools of

Carver are 2 of 20 public schools within

½-mile of the BeltLine that will benefit from

additional travel options for students and

staff.

• The historic bridge crossing Ormewood

Avenue and the tunnel below Hank Aaron

Drive and McDonough Boulevard present

dynamic aesthetics and will be preserved.

• One of the first new greenspaces to be de-

veloped, the 21-acre Boulevard Crossing

Park will enhance the vitality of Boulevard

Heights and Englewood Manor.
