Pathfinder Multi Academy Trust includes one large
secondary school and 9 primary schools. We are
seeking a Cleaning & Catering Manager to manage
the catering and cleaning services, which are both a
mixture of in house and outsourced services,
ensuring that the Trust’s standards are maintained
and that individual school expectations are in line
with the agreed objectives for their locations.
The successful candidate must be willing and able to
work in any of our schools, all of which are in York.
We are therefore looking for someone who enjoys
variety and is flexible, adaptable and can work well
with others.

Main Purpose of Job
To manage the catering and cleaning services, which are both a mixture of in house and outsourced services,
ensuring that the Trust’s standards are maintained and that individual school expectations are in line with the
Core Responsibilities, Tasks and Duties
• Management of the smooth running of the Trust’s catering and cleaning provision through the effective
deployment of staff, ensuring an effective and efficient service is maintained at all times.
• Assist with the recruitment and supervision of catering and cleaning staff, including sickness and discipline.
Identify training needs through regular feedback on performance and by conducting performance review
meetings in line with Trust policy.
• Ensure all members of the team are working to the highest standards of performance in an environment
where customer satisfaction is paramount, with due observation to appropriate Health and safety
requirements.
• Ensure quality standards are maintained towards meeting the Trust’s strategic objectives
• Management of the Outsourced contracts for both Catering and Cleaning at schools within the Trust.
• Monitoring and auditing of cleaning standards across the schools, ensuring that the Trust standards are
being met
• Managing cover within both Catering and Cleaning to ensure that all shortfalls in staff levels are covered
• Contribute to developing, promoting and increasing business within the Catering function at Archbishop
Holgate’s School, especially UIFSM
• Identify, develop and maintain effective systems of work in order to monitor incoming demand and
improve service levels.
• Handle all customer comments and complaints to a positive outcome. Assist in the establishment of
systems for receiving feedback from our customer base.
• Assist with the completion and updating of HACCP, COSHH and risk assessment documentation across all
schools.
• Work closely with customers and Trust staff to ensure appropriate behaviour within the catering outlets
and to deal with incidents of unacceptable behaviour, where appropriate
• Comply with food safety, health and safety and EHO requirements at all times.
• Support all aspects of the catering operations as and when required.
• Take a positive approach to personal staff development, identifying appropriate training and development
opportunities to enhance individual skills and knowledge and undertake any relevant training identified by
the Corporation as necessary and important for the role.

schools
Job Description
Supervision/Management of People
• Line management, development and day to day supervision of the MAT Catering and Cleaning Teams.
• Providing a specialist advisory role in relation to the performance management of schools’ catering and
cleaning staff.
• It is expected that the Catering & Cleaning Manager will play a key role in supporting school staff with
advice on good practice to ensure they can carry out their roles effectively. This will be done in liaison with
the schools’ Heads and School Business Managers – the direct line management and supervision of
catering and cleaning staff will be the responsibility of the MAT Central Team.

• Subject to minimal supervision, established procedures, practices and routines, where these exist.
• Required to deal with problems on a daily basis.
• Required to use initiative and interpret policy guidelines.
• The post holder uses initiative in proposing changes to working practices and/or processes for own and
departments work.
• Continually assessing work improving systems as necessary.
• Ability to give advice and seek information from pupils / parents.
Contacts and Relationships
• Providing advice to school SLTs and MAT Central Services on a regular basis as regards catering and
cleaning provision
• Regular contact with outside agencies (LA, Auditors, Suppliers, Contractors etc.).
• A confident, calm manner may be required
Decisions - Discretion and Consequences
• Management / prioritisation of own workload and of that of staff reporting to this post.
• Required to give professional advice on appointments of site staff.
• Negotiation, problem solving, giving advice and seeking information.
• Working without close supervision and dealing with issues which will not be subject to established
procedures, practices and routines.
• Many decisions are dictated or influenced by risk assessment, Health and Safety legislation and school
protocols

School sites within the MAT.

There may be a risk of abuse from some pupils / parents and a risk from contagious illnesses. May involve
contact with potentially hazardous substances e.g. chemicals, but training and protective equipment is given
where appropriate
Knowledge and Skills
The post holder needs a good level of practical skills in the following areas:
• Good Standard of numeracy
• Proficient in the use of MS Office, particularly Word and Excel
