Designed specifically for low flow applications,the Masoneilan 28000 Series Varipak providesexcellent throttling control performance with awide range of options and capabilities. Designoptimization has also resulted in an extremelyintegrated and compact assembly. Key designfeatures include :
Heavy Top-GuidingRugged valve plug support is provided along theentire stroke length using an integrated plugguide and seat ring. This ensures excellent plugstability and control even under high pressuredrop conditions. Heavy guiding is critical forcontrolling vibration damage, providingdependable control and seating performance,and minimizing trim mechanical wear.
Application Flexibility Ten standard contoured trim designs areavailable providing flexible application using thesame body platform. This helps to eliminate theeffects of valve oversizing and improves controlloop performance resulting in higher processefficiency.
Adjustable CvIn addition to multiple standard trim sets, theVaripak is also available with an adjustable Cvoption. This feature allows users to easilyincrease or decrease the Cv setting in order toaccommodate changing operating conditions.Adjustment is achieved by simply setting a knobwithin the actuator assembly (see page 4 fordetails).
Compact AssemblyMaximum space savings is provided by theVaripak assembly through modular design andforce amplification actuator technology. Theactuator also includes a low profile top-mountedhandwheel option.
Anti-Cavitation TrimVaripak is also available with an effective highpressure liquid letdown anti-cavitation trimsolution - the Varilog® trim. This unique designincludes a multi-stage axial flow plug and liner,which provides dirt tolerant operation and highwear resistance.
Design FlexibilityOther standard configurations include a HighPressure ANSI Class 2500 design, a zeroemissions Bellows Seal design, and a design forcryogenic applications. The Varipak is alsoavailable with an angle body design toaccommodate existing piping configurations.
Ease of MaintenanceVaripak's simple top-entry body constructionincludes an integrated body and bonnet design,which allows for easy access and removal of thequick change trim. The integral liner and seatring also reduces components and simplifiesassembly and disassembly. Modularity of theactuator design further enhances maintainabilityof this unique valve assembly.

VariPak is far superior to conventional microflowvalves in that it provides the user with a very widerange of nominal Cv ranges from 0.0016 to 3.8,using only eight plugs and five seats.

Simplified maintenanceThe cryogenic Varipak meets the requirements ofcryogenic processes requiring thermal insulation. An‘insulating interface’ sets up between the valve body(‘cold zone’) and the body extension located in thehigher temperature area (‘warm zone’). The valve bodyassembly and its thermal extension are positionedinside the ‘cold box’. The plug can be easily removedand inspected without disturbing the valve body. Thisprecludes any preliminary, complicated dismounting,and more importantly, prevents interfering in any waywith the ‘cold box’.
BodyThe valve body, manufactured from a material suitable forlow temperatures, maintains ductility in service. It can beconveniently mounted to suit any specific piping needs.However, arrangements must be made so that the anglebetween the valve axis and vertical does not exceed 60°.
The bonnet is located away from the cryogenic fluid,which means that the body gasket is not inside the coldzone. This design prevents any leakage of the cryogeninto the insulated zone.
Body extensionThe body extension and coupling sleeve are thin-walled metal tubes so as to minimize the inflow of heatby conduction. The annular space is reduced in orderto exclude any convection currents.
PlugThe design of the plug allows the working parts to beperfectly centered in relation to the seat and providesa uniform temperature zone for the guiding.
