Blessed are they who are what they are and do what they do for the sake of the kingdom! The Gospel today assures good stewards that their suffering and their service on be-half of the Kingdom will be rewarded!
Assignment February 5, 2017
4th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
"Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heav-en." Here, in a nutshell, is the Christian belief about the after-life. We trust that heaven is open to believers who accept the gift of salvation and follow the way of the Lord, even (or es-pecially) when that way is difficult! The beatitudes in today's Gospel give us a program for fol-lowing the path to heaven.
One of the greatest consolations of our faith is that even when life does not unfold according to our own perfect designs, even when there is suffering to deal with, even when we do not have great success in the eyes of the world, we can maintain hope and peace as we await the "reward" of the just. The eternal happiness of heaven will be worth every ounce of temporary trial here on earth.

If you are planning to bap-tize could be the last Saturday at St. Bernadette or the last Sunday at M.Q.O.P. of February. Lent starts on March 1st, so no baptism will be done until after Easter April 29th or 30th. Thank you!

The JOY retreat has been cancelled and will no longer be on the diocesan calendar. The new diocesan youth director plans on introducing a new retreat format in the fall.
On February 3, we will recognize St. Blaise, not only with a feast day, but with a unique ceremony that parallels the practice of anointing the sick. In this case, father is blessing the throats of those with throat
disorders and anyone who wishes to avoid getting such a malady (or something related to the throat, even the words one speaks; see Psalm 5:10).
The blessing will be next Sunday, February 5, after each Mass, this is considered a sacramental of the Church.
With Deepest Sympathy Our condolences to Frank Hernandez and family, for the loss of
his dear wife Carol. May the Lord who is love and full of compassion, console and
comfort the family during this time of loss and sorrow.
