17th Sunday in Ordinary Time July 26, 2020
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
I’m going to keep my reflection short this week, not because there aren’t important things happening in our world that need highlighting or debated but this week I want to focus on you, the faithful of Mary, Mother of the Church Parish. Firstly, I would like to thank you for your prayers for each other during these very challenging times. I know our livestream Masses and our family prayer time have been a great source of support and comfort to many. Thank you for taking the time to let me know. I hope it will continue to be a source of support and comfort. If you have someone that you would like prayed for please contact the office and we will include them in our family prayer hour. At the early stages of Covid 19 we were unable to gather as a family to celebrate the Eucharist and now with limited seating and people not feeling comfortable to gather in any kind of numbers, which is understandable, many people find themselves isolated and lonely. If this is the case please reach out to us at the office, we would love to help in any way we can. Over the last number of months I have become aware that some of our brothers and sisters have been ill for a number weeks, and in some cases longer. The unfortunate thing is many feel they don’t want to bother the priests and go for weeks without receiving Holy Communion or receiving the Sacrament of the Sick. No one should feel they are a bother or deprive themselves of the sacraments. Fr. Anson and I are here for you and would be honored to administer the sacraments. All you have to do is contact the office and we will respond as soon as we can. If you would like a loved one to receive the sacraments please consult with them first and then contact the office and Fr. Anson or I will administer the sacraments. The office staff are available Monday to Thursday: 9am – 3pm and Friday 9am – 12.30pm. Let us continue to pray for each other and encourage each other in the faith.

“To be servants of the poor...O Mon Dieu! What a lovely title and what a beautiful description! Servants of the poor, that is just the same as to say Servants of Jesus Christ, for He regards as done to Himself what is done to
them, and they are His members. And what did He do whilst on earth, but serve the poor?” –St. Vincent de Paul Through your support we are all able to serve the poor which is like finding “the treasure in the field”.

2020-2021 REGISTRATION As we look forward to the fall we must be conscious of what is happening in the world around us. Based on concerns for the health and safety of our families and the physical distancing guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and the Diocese of Trenton, I continue to monitor and watch for guidance. We will begin to register as of August 1st. If you are new to our program, please visit our website www.mmotcp.org under RE Registration for all pertinent information and our Registration Form. For our returning families you will be receiving an email about pickup times for the Registration Form. Coming this fall we will be updating our program series.

CLASS TO MASS will continue but all students are required to attend Mass after class. VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED IN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION! Please consider volunteering. We have a wonderful program for Catechists, Aides and Hall Monitors. The success of our program is dependent on the willingness of individuals to help out. All volunteers need to be fingerprinted and attend a “VIRTUS” Safe Child workshop before being allowed to volunteer. (Fingerprinting and VIRTUS information can be found on our RE website.) Volunteering is a rewarding experience to share your faith with our parish youth. High School and College age volunteers will excel this year since we will be going digital – this is right up their alley.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and never forget all his benefits. [Psalm 103(102):2]

SAINT MARTHA (first century) July 29 Whether you find Martha Stewart admirable or annoying, she has the perfect patron saint. Luke describes Martha—saint, not Stewart—as “burdened with much serving” (Luke 10:40). About Mary, seated, listening to Jesus, Martha complained, “Do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serv-ing?” Jesus’ response, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things . . . Mary has chosen the better part” (10:41, 42), suggests to some the superiority of the contemplative life, leaving the rest of us, supporting families, earning livings, (helping others?), as second-class Christians. But Luke introduces Martha and Mary immediately after Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan, whom Jesus recom-mends as a model of practical compassion, concluding, “Go and do likewise” (10:37). Go and do! Sit and listen! Discipleship is never either/or but both/and. Jesus ministered in prayerful silence and hospitable service. Monastic calendars add Martha’s sister, Mary, and brother, Lazarus, calling all three “hosts of the Lord,” recalling their welcome of Jesus to their home in Bethany, reminding us Whom we welcome whenever we extend summertime hospitality! —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. Prayer Before Receiving Holy Communion Jesus, my God, you are infinitely good and perfect. I love you above all things and with my whole heart. I desire to receive you in Holy Communion that I may love you more and serve you better. Come to me and strengthen me, so that I may never be separated from you on earth and that I may live with you eternally in heaven. Amen.
Prayer After Receiving Holy Communion My good Jesus, I thank you with all my heart for giving me yourself, the source of all graces, in Holy Communion. I thank you for all the blessings that I have received from you, especially through the Holy Eucharist, in which you are ever present to console us and to help us in our needs. In thanksgiving for all your favors, I offer you all that I am and have. Dispose of me according to your pleasure. May your will be done in me and through me now and forever. Amen

DISTRIBUTION OF COMMUNION - DRIVE-TO INSTRUCTIONS • As a family, please watch the livestream Mass together in your home
• After Mass ends get in your car and come to the Church to receive Holy Communion (those receiving need to be at their own car window and not able to exit the car)
• There will be a Holy Communion station at each Church
• Before receiving Holy Communion pray the ‘Prayer Before Receiving Communion’ in the car together
• After receiving Holy Communion pray the ‘Prayer After Receiving Communion’ together in the car. (Prayers found on previous page.)
Holy Communion will be distributed 15 minutes after Mass has completed, thus giving you time to drive over to the respective Church. First and foremost I ask for your patience in all this - this is not like a concert where there are a limited number of tickets and one feels the need to sleep out all night to be in line with a chance of getting a ticket. There will be Holy Communion for all who want to receive and for whatever length of time it takes. Receiving Holy Communion at St Mary Church, Bordentown • Enter our parking lot off of Crosswicks Street nearest the Church, coming in the direction from
Route 130 or from the school. • Do not enter our parking lot coming from Farnsworth Ave as that could cause a backup of traffic at the
Church entrance - all other entrances will be closed off. • Please follow the directions of the stewards. Receiving Holy Communion at Holy Assumption, Roebling • Go to Parish Lane Road, the road running alongside the Church and the Charter School, leading to Holy
Assumption Cemetery. • Drive toward the Cemetery and a Holy Communion station will be in placed in the Cemetery. • Please follow the instructions of the stewards. *Please recite the ‘Prayer Before Communion’ together before receiving Communion. Once you receive, please have one member of the family recite the ‘Prayer After Communion’ as you leave the parking lot. If you are alone, please pray the prayer when you are safely able to do so.
