MARKET INFORMATION ABOUT TEXAS
Texas population is projected to grow by ten million people, from about 23 million in 2005 to33 million by 2030, a 43.5 percent increase or roughly 1.7 percent per year.
ABOUT SAN ANTONIOThe city of San Antonio, situated in south-central Texas, is the county seat of BexarCounty, which is the third largest county in the state of Texas. Considered a gateway offoreign trade, San Antonio is recognized by Business Facilities magazine as one of thefive major logistical locations in the country for warehousing and distribution. It benefits fromits proximity to Mexico and has reaped the economic rewards of the North American FreeTrade Agreement (NAFTA). Over half of the goods moving in and out of Mexico pass throughthe city of San Antonio and this trade is expected to grow. Thirty percent of the city's retailmarket demand comes from shoppers living in Mexico.
POPULATION
The US Census Bureau indicated that San Antonio was the nation's second fastestgrowing major city from 1990 to 2000. The city grew 14.5% percent over that decade toa population of 1,144,646. The reported 2007 population estimate is 1,259,735 indicatinga growth rate over the past seven years of over 1.4% per year. The San AntonioMetropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) that includes Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, and Wilsoncounties has a current population of 1,985,996 with over 1.5 percent annual growthprojected through the year 2012. The MSA grew by 21.6% between 1990 and 2000,
which is similar to the overall state of Texas at 22% over the same time.
EMPLOYMENT
San Antonio is considered the economic trade center for an area that includes Bexar,Comal, Wilson and Guadalupe counties representing the San Antonio MetropolitanStatistical Area (MSA). The total MSA civilian labor force (C.L.F.) is 930,495. Thecurrent unemployment rate is approximately 3.8% as compared to the entire state ofTexas at 4.2%.
