Malene b- Custom Handmade Carpets is built around the authentic image and talent of its principal designer, Malene Barnett. She is a Brooklyn based carpet designer with a multi-disciplinary background in textile arts, painting and illustration from New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology. For more than a decade, Malene b has been creating carpets for industry professionals and private label brands. Now, with the launch of her own company, Malene b Custom Handmade Carpets, her collection’s are showcased in showrooms across the US and Canada. In addition, her work has been featured in several national andinternational magazines such as Interior Design, New York Magazine and Hospitality Design. Malene b’s unique carpets, inspired by her international travels, boldly interpret cultural icons, landscapes and rituals in an entirely fresh and personal way. Her passion for all things cultural stems from Malene b’s world travels to places like Dakar, Mumbai and Kuala Lumpur. Malene b personally designs each carpet to fit perfectly into your environment. Her signature style incorporates the use of three dimensional hand sculpting techniques resulting in varied surfaces, pile heights and textures. It is important for Malene b to be socially conscious in all her endeavors. To that end, she proudly supports Goodweave and Aid to Artisans in their quest to eliminate child labor practices, provide educationand preserve handmade crafts in Africa, Asia and South America.

CUSTOM ORDERS

Malene b specializes in creating custom handmade carpets. From a blank canvas, Malene b can create, to your specifications,a custom carpet perfectly suited for your unique residential, commercialor hospitality project. Each custom handmade carpet is made to order in any size, shape or color. Custom dyed colors are available at no additional charge.

DESIGN PROCESSMalene b begins the design process with a consultation to discussthe clients project.

DESIGN CONCEPTSMalene b develops several design concepts and digital renderings. Once approved by the client, the sample process begins.

STRIKE OFF SAMPLESTo ensure our clients satisfaction, a strike off sample is ordered. The sample is available for review within 4-6 weeks.

CLIENT APPROVALWith the client’s written approval and a 50% deposit, production will begin.

LEAD TIMESOur standard lead time is 12-16 weeks for hand knotted and 8-12 weeks for hand tufted. Rush orders are available.

BAOBABIt was during my first visit to the Gambia, West Africa that I discovered the baobab tree. This unique tree, with it’s immensely thick trunk and tiny branches, serves the special function of storing water for the local nomadic people. The baobab, the tree of life, is truly one of natures’ bold creations.
