management of chronic kidney disease?

Medical burden of ESRD
• Patients with ESRD have other medical problems especially Cardiovascular diseases
Cardiovascular mortality in dialysis patients is 10 – 20 times higher than in the general population (GP)
More elderly patients are being accepted for dialysis
Increased Co-morbidity

Kidney Health Education Campaign
“The Freedom to Live”
A Public Service Effort by the Malaysian Society of Nephrology
(MSN) in collaboration with Baxter
Campaign Objectives
• Increase general public awareness regarding kidney disease, causes and prevention
• Educate patients on proper management to prevent disease progression
• Educate patients on effective treatment of kidney failure : Haemodialysis, Peritoneal dialysis and Transplant
The campaign
• Integrated media campaign
• Comprehensive, focused coverage in targeted publications ( dailies, magazines) and broadcast media (TV, radio) over a 12 month period
• Overall positioning: Call for early detection and proper management of kidney disease

Prevention is of utmost importance
Key messages
• Progression of kidney disease can be prevented by
-early detection
-blood pressure control
-blood sugar control
-other specific measures
Key messages
• Effective treatment for kidney failure is available
-Peritoneal dialysis
-Haemodialysis
-Transplant
Key messages
• It is possible to enjoy the freedom to live through improved quality of life when kidney disease is properly treated and managed
