JUDICIAL DISCIPLINARY PROCEEDINGS
Conducting judicial disciplinary proceedings properly is
key for judiciaries. Proceedings ensure that judges are
behaving in accordance with international standards of
judicial ethics, such as the Bangalore Principles of
Judicial Conduct. However, questions of individual and
institutional judicial independence arise. For instance,
judiciaries should ensure that judges are not being
disciplined for well-founded judicial decisions that some
disagree with.
DAVID SACHARDavid Sachar is the Executive Director of the
Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission
for the State of Arkansas in the United
States, as well as an Advisory Board member
of the National Center for State Courts.
