Localfoodbank islookingfor help

The Community FoodBank ofNew Jersey has prepared 25,000meals for evacuation siles for vic-tims of Hurricane Irene. They arecurrently producing 2,000 mealsper day for the region as well asdistributing cleanup supplies andbottled water.

Some of the recent activitiesare listed below. Contact them ifyou would like more details orwant to cover any aspect of theireffort.

They are asking the public tosupport their relief efforts atwww.njfoodbank.org/helpnow orby bringing canned, non-perish-able food items to one of threelocations:

• The Main Warehouse: 31Evans Terminal. Hillside, on Mon-days, Wednesdays, Thursdays andFridays from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. orTuesdays from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.and Saturdays from V, a.m. to 2p.m. The main warehouse is alsoopen on Sundays from 12 to 4 p.m.

• The Southern Branch: ShoreMall, former site of Value City—east entrance, between Mondayand Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.,and Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon.

• WDHA: 55 Horsehill Road,Cedar Knolls, Monday throughFriday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

RELIGIONMonth of the Rosary

St. Michael's Church, 40 AldenSt., Cranford, will observe Octoberas "The Month of the Rosary" withspecial Rosary prayer services.

The Rosary is a traditionalCatholic devotion. Tlie term,"Rosary," denotes the prayer beadsused to count the series of prayers thatmake up the devotion. The prayersconsist of praying "The Lord'sPrayer," followed by praying the"Hail Mary" 10 times and the prayingof "Glory Be to the Father." The pray-ing of each decade is accompanied bya meditation recalling an event in thelife o,"Jesus Christ.

On each of the five Mondayevenings of the month, a Rosaryservice will be conducted at 7 p.m.in the church. In addition to prayingthe Rosary, Marian Prayer andhymns will be included in thesespecial services. The title, "Queenof the Holy Rosary," is one of themany titles bestowed upon the Vir-

gin Mary by the Roman CatholicChurch worldwide.

Jewish Women tohold meeting, Sept. 20

Elaine Ratner, president of theJewish Women InternationalBatim-Union Chapter, hasannounced that the first meeting ofthe fall season will be held Sept. 20at the YM-YWHA, 501 GreenLane, Union.

A board meeting will be held at12:15 p.m., and a genera! meetingat 1:15 p.m.

St. John Food Pantrydistributes Sept. 20

Saint John The Apostle F'oodPantry will be having a food distri-bution on Sept. 20 at the ClarkRecreation cafeteria located at 430Westfield Ave., Clark. Food bag-ging will take place between thehours of 10 a.m. and noon. Theactual food distribution will befrom noon to 2 p.m. Proof of NewJersey residency is required.

William Brooke Ostrander, 64,music educator at Missisquoi Val-ley Union High School, VT for 26years, passed away September 3.2011, in Swanton, VT surroundedby loving family.

Brooke was born on December18, 1946, the son of William V. andMurrill B. (Mickey) Ostrander ofRoselle Park, NJ where he andgrew up and graduated from RPHSin 1964.

Brooke's life was an unendingpassion for music, participating inmany ensembles, All-State bands,and award winning drum and buglecorps in NYC. He received his BAand MA degrees (Magnu CumLaude) in Music Theory and Com-position from Emporia State Uni-versity in KS. Fie created musicwith his rock and roll band WickedLester (the pre-'KISS' band) andworked as a studio musician atElectric Ladyland Studio withrecording artists like Steven Stills.He taught in Linden, NJ and spent10 years in Browning, MT wherehe developed a music program forthe Blackfeet Indian Tribe.

Brooke is survived by his wifeCarol Ann, his daughter Katy (andhusband Reid), his son Jordan (andwife Alexis), his sister Cathi Swan-son of Macomb, IL, and his brotherBnice Oslrander of Sackets Harbor, NY.Further information can be foundon the website of Kidder MemorialHome in Swanton, VT .

Edna M. ValituttoEdna Mary Valitutto- Pinehurst,

NC, age 81, a native of New Jersey,entered the Gates of Heaven onSaturday, September 3, 2011.

Born on December 16, 1929 inNewark, NJ, she was the daughterof the late Anthony Triano andEdna Reiger Triano. She was a lov-ing and devoted wife, mother ofsix, "Nanny", sister and friend. In

addition to her family, Edna's pas-sions included cooking and shop-ping, and she was known for themany wonderful meals she pre-pared for family, friends and neigh-bors. She had a loving generousspirit and shared that with everyoneshe knew. Edna also loved thebeach and enjoyed many trips withher family and children to the NewJersey Coast. She was a devoutCatholic and was a member ofSacred Heart Catholic Church inPinehurst.

She is survived by five daughters,Valerie Taccogna and husbandRonald of Iselin, NJ; Gloria Fultonand husband Bob of Wall, NJ; PattyKlalo and husband Alex of Whis-pering Pines, NC; Peggy Ramirezand husband Bob of Kenilworth.NJ; Gina Kutakoff and husbandJeff of Hillside, NJ. one son.Edmund J. Valitutto, Jr. and wifeDarlene of West End, NC, tengrandchildren: Lauren Talarico-Flughes. Frank Talarico. Erin Tac-cogna, Stephanie Ramirez, CaitlinKlalo. Drew Klalo, RobertRamirez, Armand Klalo, JustinKutakoff and Madisen Kutakoff. abrother. A Funeral Mass was held onThursday, September 8, 2011 atSacred Heart Roman CatholicChurch in Pinehurst with Rev. JohnJ. Nicola officiating. Entombmentfollowed the Mass at PineiawnMemorial Park in Southern Pines.
