Trucker’s acquittal upheld in21-kg drug smuggling case

Firm accused of stealing materials from PAI project site

KUWAIT CITY, June 6:The Court of Appealsupheld the ruling of theCriminal Court thatacquitted a truck driver ofsmuggling 21 kilos ofhashish from Iraq.

Case files indicate the customsinspector seized a truck comingfrom Iraq and this led to the dis-covery of the hashish. The truckdriver was later charged withsmuggling narcotics for tradingpurposes.

The Public Prosecution contestedthe lower court’s verdict and filed apetition by the Court of Appeals reject-ed it.

The defendant’s lawyer,Mohammad Abass, denied the chargesas he questioned in court the validityof the arrest and inspection proceduresdue to the absence of a warrant.

Materials stolen: A company stolesome materials from a project site ofPublic Authority for Industry but theauthority did not take any legal proce-dure against the company, reports Al-Shahed daily.

According to a report issued by theState Audit Bureau, the stolen itemsinclude materials and equipment.

The authority had formed a commit-tee to sell unused items through publicauction and the company was con-tracted to convey the items from a par-ticular location to the venue of sale inthe presence of committee members.

The company wrongly took posses-sion of some materials and equipmentbelonging to the authority afterupgrading and replacing some items atShuaiba Water Cooling Plant.

KFSD photoFiremen from Hawally and Salmiya fire stations put out a fire which broke out in an apart-ment on the second floor of a residential building in the area and prevented it from spread-ing, says a press release issued by the Kuwait Fire Services Directorate. No human casu-alties have been reported. Meanwhile, a fire broke out in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh which wascaused by an electrical short circuit. It was put out by firemen from the area fire station.

No casualties have been reported.

Pyramid like structure provokes controversy

KUWAIT CITY, June 6: A large struc-ture at a roundabout in Faiha area builtin the form of a pyramid is provokingcontroversy, as some people look uponthe figure as a symbol of Freemasonrydue to the prevalence of the practice inthe area, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Mayor of Faiha retired Major GeneralMohammad Dhahi Al-Hawas refutedthe claim saying the structure does notrepresent the system and institution offreemason. He explained an engineerliving in the area Fahad Al-Waqyan vol-unteered to design the structure whileKuwait Municipality and the Ministry ofPublic Works approved of it before exe-cution.

He affirmed that residents of Faiha arereligious and well behaved, and that theideology of Freemasonry does not existin the area or Kuwait in general. Hestressed the rumor is unfounded, ruseand misleading, because the engineer

who designed the pyramid is not aFreemason.

He noted the residents of Faiha co-exist peacefully with love, and consid-ered those insinuating the residents ofFaiha are into Freemasonry as liars. Hechallenged the rumor mongers to provea single Kuwaiti citizen is intoFreemasonry.

In his comment, designer of the struc-ture Engineer Al-Waqyan said he cameout with the idea based on the beauty ofmindset rather than Freemasonry orother ideologies. He corroborated theMayor saying the residents of Faiha arereligious and won’t allow anybody touse the symbol of Freemasonry to repre-sent the area.

He indicated the triangular structure issuitable for the location and that waterfountain with lights will be built in thesame location, indicating he is waitingfor official approval of the project.

General Suleiman Al-Fahad has called for theministry’s assistant

undersecretaries to cau-tion the police officersunder their jurisdictionagainst discarding useduniform in a slapdashfashion. He indicated theuniform should bereturned to the GeneralDepartment for Supplyand it will be discardedin an appropriate man-ner, reports Al-Anbadaily.

In circular number82/2015, Lt General Al-Fahad stated uniform dis-tributed to the police offi-cers in summer and win-ter seasons should beused well and protectedagainst other purposesdetrimental to its objec-tive.

The uniform is consid-ered to be part of the offi-cial materials entrusted toevery officer and shouldbe returned whenreplaced with new onesduring summer and win-ter seasons.
