December already! Were has the year gone?
Preparations are well underway for Christmas in LVPS and we hope that you will be able to join us in celebrating the talents of our pupils through attending the nativity shows in nursery and P1&2 and the P6/5 and P5/4 book launch. Further details are over the page.
Our Christmas post box will be available from Monday 5th December. In the interests of cost and being eco-friendly, please try to persuade your child to write 1 Christmas card to the class rather than each individual child. Please can your also ensure that the full name and class are written on the envelope to ensure cards go to the correct people.
All of our pupils have now been sent home with their winter ready stickers indicating that they know how to use GLOW in the event of a snow closure. Many classes are making very good use of GLOW on a weekly basis to en-hance learning. GLOW is being used to share learning, share examples of work, post homework and celebrate successes. Children have been access-ing this at home and communicating with their peers to help develop each others learning. Well done to all staff and pupils for their hard work in this area.
Please can I take this opportunity to remind you that if your child is having a problem with their password then please ask them to speak to their teacher who will be able to re-set it for them. If there is a problem with a password during a school closure, please send an e-mail to [email protected] and we will re-set this for you. We will always re-set passwords to your child’s first and surname with a space in between, all in lower case (e.g. louise turnbull). We will aim to change passwords as soon as possible after receiving the request. If you have any concerns or have any further questions about GLOW, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
We have also been working hard to update our school blog. You can find this by searching Google for ‘Livingston Village blog’ or using the URL https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/livingstonvillageprimaryschool/
Use this site to find out what we have been doing in school. If you missed the maths or phonics workshop, you will find copies of the presentations here.
Nursery children do not have access to GLOW. With this in mind, a blog site has been set up for the nursery children. The purpose of this blog is to pro-vide a space where parents and carers can access appropriate learning re-sources to engage pre-school children out with the nursery if we are closed. The URL for this site is https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/snonursery/ We hope that you find this useful. You will also find a link on our school blog.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and New Year. I hope that you have a lovely time over the festive period and enjoy all the fun and festivities. All the best for 2012!

Primary 6 have been very busy
in the last month. The whole
class participated in the online
Four Nations Mathletics Chal-
lenge. They have also had a
visit from a Scripture Union
rep on the 10 commandments to
link in with their RME topic on
ethics. The children are all
working hard on their Christ-
mas books and are writing
these for the nursery children.
The books tell the story of an
unwelcome visitor who tried to
spoil Christmas at Santa’s
workshop. The class have also
been very busy creating 3D
maps of Livingston Village to
develop their understanding
about their local area. Last
week they have taken part in
money week and have also been
busy making Christmas wreaths
for selling at the Christmas
Fair. Look out for these at the
stalls!
Many thanks for your support in
raising money for Children In
Need. Collectively we have
raised £384.75!

P3 & P2: Tuesday 20th - pm
P1: Wednesday 21st - pm

Photography Nursery Update Milk
I would like to introduce myself - my name is Karen Falconer and I have just taken on the role of
Chair of the Parent Council from David Cohen. I would like to thank David for his hard work over the
past few years and his continued support. I am sincerely delighted to have the honour of doing this
role.
I have regularly attended Parent Council/Fund raising meetings since my daughter, Mollie, started in
the nursery 3 years ago and she is now in Primary 2. How quickly time passes! I am very passionate
about this school, the real sense of community spirit and it is evident how hard the staff and pupils
are all working.
I would like to thank the parents/carers, staff and members of the Pupil Council who attended our
last meeting on 8th November. It is always wonderful to hear how the school is moving forward and
the amazing things that our children are achieving. Stuart and Rhiannon from primary 6 gave us a
Pupil Council update and demonstrated some of the ICT equipment the school has recently pur-
chased. They did very well. It was also great to see some new faces at the meeting but we would like
to see more.
Future dates in 2012 for the Parent Council Meetings are 7th February and 15th May 2012 - please
add these to your diary. It would be great if more parents/carers could attend. We really do not ask
for a big time spend and I do realise that it is difficult to juggle work and home life.
There are always the same couple of points which are raised at these meetings - the school fund and
parking! We are all aware that times are hard due to the current economic climate, but school budg-
ets continue to be cut every year. The suggested weekly donation of 50p to the school fund helps
support various activities for the children - school trips, Christmas parties etc. The cost of provid-
ing transport on trips is very expensive. The school fund for this term is £4.50 and next term,
£5.50. I would be grateful if you could support this.
The other issue is parking in the staff car park - again, this is documented in every monthly news-
letter! Please do not use the car park at any point in the morning and ideally not until after 5pm
for the dropping off or picking up children. Staff are still working at this time and it is not safe for
all parties concerned.
Anything you can do to help in any way, is always very welcome and is invaluable to the school. From
my previous experience helping out in the nursery, it was always great fun to do and a gave me a
great sense of satisfaction.
I hope to see you at The Christmas Fair on Saturday 10th Decem-
ber, 11.00am - it sounds as if this this will be a wonderful day and the
fundraising committee are working hard to make this happen!
Finally, may I take this opportunity to wish you all, a very Merry
Christmas and a Happy and safe New Year.
Karen Falconer
