SUMMARY Description by Edward S. Curtis: The beautiful limpid Havasu flows the entire length of
Cataract Cañon, furnishing the Havasupai with ample water for irrigation and for domestic use. They
carry the household supply of water in gummed wicker bottles held in place on the back by a burden strap
passing across the forehead, in a manner similar to that of the Hopi.

SUMMARY View of Ice Palace (abandoned mine shaft) on Mount McClellan, Colorado, reached via
Argentine Central Railway. A man in derby hat holds a lit candle with leather gloves inside Ice Palace; his
pants are tucked in his boots. Shows beautiful ice crystals formed from seepage and continually cold
temperatures.
NOTES Title and signature hand-lettered on glass plate. Copy negative made from vintage photographic
print.
