Six Components
1. Agility
• The ability to control the body’s movements and to change body position quickly
• Test: 5-10-5 shuttle– 3 lines, 5 yards apart– Person starts over top the center line, clock
starts on person 1st movement. – Run 5 yards right, then 10 yards left, then 5
yards right again

2. Balance
• Ability to stay up right either on one or two feet, either still or moving
• Ways to improve:– Standing on one foot, with a variety of
positions – Without shoes is harder– Medicine balls
3. Coordination
• An organized working together of muscles and groups of muscles aimed at bringing about a purposeful movement.
4. Speed
• How fast a person can move over a given area in a certain amount of time– Test: 40 yard dash

4. Speed
• Stride frequency:– Sled, parachutes, slight decline
• Stride length:– High speed up hill running
5. Reaction Time
• How quickly a person responds to a given stimulus
• Test: Yard stick drop
• Improvement:– Ball toss or drop (miracle) – Voice or whistle commands
6. Power
• Force x Acceleration
• Test:– Standing long jump– Vertical jump test– Medicine ball toss
