OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide leadership for the research conducted by the program, especially in the development of new approaches, concepts, methodologies, tools or technologies; plan, direct, contribute to and guarantee the quality of the research of the Program, positioning CATIE in innovative and relevant themes for the region
Conduct graduate education and training activities through direct participation as well as ensure that the members of the Program contribute to graduate education and training activities, such as courses, advising students and others, designed to develop technical and leadership capacity of students, staff members and groups of producers.
Participate in the implementation of the Center’s Strategic Plan, in order to achieve the proposed objectives.
In the subject areas of the program, provide leadership to CATIE´s research, resource management and technical assistance in order to achieve a critical mass of resources and recognition for excellence in those areas.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and edit scientific and technical documents for publication in international, regional and national media, as well as orient Program members in the production of such documents.
Make presentations in national, regional and international scientific forums.
Represent CATIE and strengthen its contacts, and work with international, governmental and non-governmental organizations and international cooperation agencies; for example, participate in meetings of CATIE donors, Board of Directors and Ministers and in other events with partners as well as national and international events.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Doctorate degree in the area of specialization
At least ten years of experience in similar tasks
Experience in graduate-level education
Recognized trajectory in research
Demonstrated experience in the management and implement of research and development projects
Knowledge of negotiations with NGO, GO and international organisms and/or financial entities
Technical and practical knowledge in the preparation, monitoring and evaluation of projects
Management of computer packages
Advanced knowledge of Spanish and English

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Guarantee the quality and support Program actions related to technical assistance in the countries in collaboration with projects and the Outreach and Development Directorate
Coordinate planning, monitoring and evaluation activities, as well as prepare reports for the Program and support corresponding activities for CATIE as a whole.
Supervise the Program staff and provide feedback for the personnel, including the preparation of group and individual Annual Operating Plans (AOP), evaluations, training, personnel development and others.
Support the Director of the Division in his/her responsibilities, particularly in the integration amongst programs, links with the Outreach and Development Directorate and with the National Technical Offices (NTO) and the development and implementation of inter-sectorial and cross-cutting programs such as the Meso-American Agroenvironmental Program (MAP).
Help improve and maintain CATIE’s organizational climate, in order to contribute to the achievement of satisfaction of the human capital working for the Center.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Organize the preparation and participate in the negotiation of proposals and strategic alliances that contribute to strengthening CATIE.
• Coordinate the efficient and transparent use of financial, human and logistical resources of the core budget and budgets of projects assigned to the Program
Develop the personnel assigned to the Program, promoting their participation in training activities, congresses, courses and other opportunities, relevant to their focus and expertise, in order to strengthen CATIE’s social capital.
Participate in the FINNFOR II and MAP2N Advisory Committees, supporting the development of proposals for scaling up and out and giving continuity to these initiatives.
Conduct other activities related to the position.
